Why don't you go with mud flaps also?

Add some 4" wheels with 1/4" tall tires, spinners and curb feelers and you'll have the pimpest jet out there.

Oh, and paint it purple! :D

Les

p.s. Ron, The 15 is in works...

For those of you that weren't in Waco on Saturday, I had a great day.........NOT.

What Turbine do you have installed?

We keep trying to tell Les that kero and burned epoxy resin are not good as flavors for doing a barbeque and that he really ough to be using mesquite, but he just won't listen to us...;)

Les...sorry about your loss....I bet you can rebuild it!

Viper to Maverick: You fly jets long enough, something like this happens... [sm=pirate.gif]

You'll be back in the air in no time. You can borrow some time on DCM's Raptor! :D

I think the turbine was a RAM 1000. It appears to have survived.

DCM, I just lost my wingman for a while. [&o]

How'bout that Raptor? :D

Um...it caught fire. :)

Seriously though, we think that the stainless pipe collapsed and caused it. When I saw the first sign of flames it was too late.

Anyone have a baby boomer they want to unload CHEAP? :D

Found this on the web.

[link]http://www.tarrantcounty.com/egov/cwp/view.asp?a=733&Q=467946[/link]

Today, July 1, 2008, the Tarrant County Commissioner's Court approved an Outdoor Burning Ban for Tarrant County.

This Outdoor Burning Ban will be in place for the next 90 days.

As of today, all outdoor burning in Tarrant County is PROHIBITED.

Several areas of the unincorporated areas of Tarrant County have been determined to be under drought conditions by the Texas Forest Service and the Tarrant County Fire Marshal requested the Ban on Outdoor Burning in an effort to protect lives and properties of the residents in Tarrant County.

Also, the weather outlook for the next fourteen days indicates most of the county will be under drought conditions.

A violation of the Court Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning is a class C Misdemeanor and punishable of a fine up to $500.00.

Question,

If there is a burn barn in effect.......are we not flying jets out of our own good spirit or are is there a rule prohibiting us from doing so? I have never heard Tbird directive having a rule on this, but I can ask.

Not that I'll be flying on 105F weather anyway, but if R/C helis can fly, so should we. The biggest fire we've ever had at Tbird was caused by a Heli.........not by a jet. Also, electrics using Li-Pos would be be on the same boat.

At least we carry a Fire Extinguisher.

The ol burn ban question.. Let me get my popcorn along with some fire works:D Wait its a burn ban no fire works.. I think its done out of the kindness of jet guys I dont think i have ever heard or seen something officially saying no turbine jets can fly during a burn ban. I know some jet guys say its in the books, but I never have seen those books... So I dont know..

I say let em fly....They bought their jets they knew what they were getting into... Sorry I just saw airplane :)

I realize the incident they had at Benbrook happened to be at the helicopter flyin a few years back - that was quite a freak accident in my mind.

I think it is easier to get into a bad situation with a turbine model than a glow powered model. Not all of us fly P-60 powered Boomerang floaters - so for that reason, I'll just stay in and build - I have plenty of that to do. [8D] As for official rules, I'm pretty sure there aren't any. (That is, except for Austin now...) I'm not sure about Benbrook, although I remember a couple years ago out there the prez did ask that we refrain from flying because of the ban then...

RE: Benbrook, TX Jet Fun

It is unfortunate to even bring this up on a public forum but now that we have.............. about 2 weeks ago I was flying my FALCON POWERED BOOMER with smoke @ benbrook and the fire department was on scene for a capsized boat right by the field. After they rescued those people they came up to the field to watch and talked to me in between flights. They really enjoyed watching and I opened the can of worms about the burn ban. They said the burn ban is against an intentional open flame like burning trash or a campfire, and that our activities did not fall under that category. I quickly pointed out that if a jet went in with the engine running, there would quickly be an "open flame." They laughed and said they have degrees in fire safety and understand exactly what a model turbine engine is and how it works......they then said if we start a fire to call them and they will come put it out because that is their job. They told me to have fun and thanks for showing them my jet.

I don't want to break any club rules and so if someone tells me not to fly, I won't.

OK, so we are doing this out of our own will then. Just wanted to clarify that.........can't vs won't.

OK, so we are doing this out of our own common sense then. Just wanted to clarify that.........can't vs won't.
There I fixed that for you.

Here is what I wrote about this subject in the last thread that brought it up:

1. Vegetation (grass and trees) burn much easier and quicker during dry conditions (both moisture in the vegetation and air humidity).

2. If a fire is started in vegetation during dry conditions (no matter how it is initiated) it will spread much faster than it would when conditions are wetter (this is why there are burn ban s).

3. The likelihood of a model airplane crash initiating a fire is higher with turbine powered models than it is with other types of powerplants.
(While the jet community has done an excellent job of limiting the possibility of a fire during a crash with safety features, rules, and procedures, the above statement is still true)

4. Depending on the distance between the flight line and the point of impact it could take several minutes for people to reach the scene and begin to extinguish the fire. If conditions are too dry the size of the fire could exceed what the on site resources are capable of handling before they are even on the scene.

5. It could take 10-15 minutes (or more) for the fire department to arrive. If conditions are very dry the fire could spread beyond the capabilities of the first responders before they are able to make it to the scene.

6. During very dry conditions it is very likely that the resources of local fire departments are already being strapped dealing with other fires. This will only serve to increase the time it will take for them to respond to your emergency.

During normal conditions turbine powered models can be operated very safely and the dangers can be minimized and controlled, but when conditions are too dry I am not going to fly because I do not want to be responsible for a large fire that could easily result from a crash. While I have plenty of insurance (both personal and AMA) that does not mean that I have the right to put other people and their property at risk just because "I am covered".
I will not fly my turbine powered models during a burn ban whether there is a rule against it or not.
