How do you fix a cloudy canopy?
I spilled a bit of acetone on my Skymaster canopy and it went cloudy. Is there some kind of polish or buffing compound that I can use to fix it or am I looking at sanding with ultra fine grit paper and clear coating?
Thanks, Jim |
RE: How do you fix a cloudy canopy?
Jim-two words.....micro mesh! Work like a charm. Its what we used on real F-16s to shine the canopy. It is a super super fine sand paper fabric assortment, going all the way to 12000 grit. I will tell you more over the phone. I know your boy Wayne probably has three sets at home.
Best thing is that it works great with gloss paint jobs to polish it after spraying! |

Brasso brand brass polish can be used to polish out scratches in clear plastics. It states this use on the can, and I've actually used it to polish out scratches in plastic watch crystals and CDs and DVDs. Try that in a small area and see how it does with the cloudy canopy. Another thing I've heard is that pledge can be used to clear up cloudy canopies. I assume the wax fills in the clouded area and helps to clear it up.

Once acetone is on a canopy, nothing short of wet sanding it with 1200 to 1500 grit and clear coating is going to fix it correctly.
