P80 sputter
 

Hello,

My P80 (5.5 hours) is sputtering a little bit at idle.
Is it normal or do you have any fix.

No bubble at all in the fuel line.
The engine is running very well at full power and during transition.

Sputtering or popping at idle speed is usually a sign of incomplete fuel vaporization.
This condition will not hurt anything......no need to worry.

The liquid fuel is pumped through vaporization tubes in the combustion chamber and is vaporized before being injected into the combustor. The fuel must be gaseous before combustion takes place. The sputtering or popping sound is that of very small fuel droplets burning or exploding.

When you send the engine to JetCat for service at the service interval, mention that you would like to have this problem rectified.

I have seen that behaviour with other P-80's, and occassionally (like rarely...) with a titan or 120, but not nearly as noticeable

Yes I suppose that the correct words to describe what happened is "sputtering or popping"

Now, I feel more confident with my P80.

Hi Alain,

The "popping" at idle is a typical situation with most engines. This sound reflects the unburnt fuel used to lubricate the bearings and is perfectly normal.

Watching the turbine running from behind (at the recomended safety distance) at night, you can check for hot spots that may need to be fixed, as this sputtering can be also caused by a problem in the combustion chamber or in a fuel injector.

Other than that, my P-80 also makes some sputtering at idle sometimes... and never had a issue with it.

the same problem with RT-130 hammer after 2 hours...
non regular idle and not complete combustion see looking rear of the engine..

Try with DIESEL fuel...
the problem solved...

now run with kero ok..
