Hi guys,
This is just a querey of mine, I don't own a R/C plane.
When I was at college, I made a hot air engine as a project. I wanted to make a pulse jet, but I couldn't find any plans and my lecturer and all the people I spoke to said they were unpredictable, dangerous etc. They all seemed to speak in hushed tones as though they were some big evil.
How easy are they to build from scratch and does anyone ahve any plans/technical data/schematics etc? Or even better, does anyone have a link to a video of one?

I've been a pulsejet fan for a while, but I don't have a workshop available so I haven't been able to do any of them, just read about. In fact I made a valveless one but its butt ugly (you can weld 0.8mm steel with an electrode welder) and I havne't tested it yet, its called the hinese pulse.

I'll tell you something about pulsejets Manic. The reactions and faces you have seen are absolutely common with things such as pulsejets, autogyros or any other thing whch is strange or unknown to most people. When there's something they don't understand or have heard about, people will mistreat them or fear them or both. This has happened with everything, even planes and even more with helis, and now they try to explain something they have no idea about and because of this they just repeats someone's elses opinion, who repeated from another fellow and so on. A pulsejet is a engine with very poor performance, but with a great power to weight ratio. It is inherently inefficient because it wastes most of its energy in heat and noise, and a lot of fuel just goes out without burning. They're NOT DANGEROUS if properly built. Again, why should be safer a 10-20" long prop spinning at 15K? The smallest glow engine would also make the 125dB pulsejets make if you removed the exhaust. I'll tell you why a think pulsejets are even safer than turbines and glow: they don't have moving parts (except valves), while they get hot as well as turbines and glow and must be isolated as turbines. THis are my 2 cents. If I were you, I would try them. However, be prepared to put your pulsejet in a plane that can withstand it, most times, pulsejet planes are like sidewinders :D So, practice with your fingers while you build it, you're going to need it!

Once you hear a pulsejet you will never be the same (hearing loss is irriversible :D ). I think that they are way cool (pun?) and while not for everyone (don't fly it in your neighborhood park) are very novel.

If I ever get the chance I'll build one just to scare off people :D

At present I'm not going to be putting it on a plane, its just something I've been fascinated with for a while. It'll just be a garage project and I'll be putting on a test bed. Something to annoy the neighbours and keep my welding and fabrication skills polished.
However, now I know where to come if I'm having any trouble.
