just make it big enough for my two wren 200s

rhallgarth 11-07-2008 07:12 PM

RE: FEJ Voting Results ....

At 1/7 scale it would be 94 inches long.
78+ inches wings extended
48.3 inches swept
33.4 inches high

That would be a very nice sized plane.

I also voted for the Tornado, but was hoping for a bigger plane (107+inches).[&o]

1/6 would be about 109 inches.[8D]

I'm sorry, but you gotta' be kidding me! Is anyone actually going to believe that these guys, who have been in business for all of about a year, and still have quite a ways to go to offer their current line of jets in sufficient quality, are going to successfully do, not one (F-14), but 2 swing-wing designs?!?

Why not wait until their F-18 and F-15E (with its associated VT) actually get built and *flown* by one, or perhaps even several, actual customers and prove themselves durable enough to not be guided missiles before you encourage them to take on such a project!

I mean seriously, this is getting silly...

Bob,

We could start a special I hate FEJ for you if you would like. I think everyone on every FEJ thread knows how you feel and in your situation probably with just cause but is there really any reason to try and continually trash FEJ???

That's the thing, I don't hate them, I honestly hope that they succeed. I don't harbor any ill will against them for the jets I bought from them. I paid my money, and I made my choice knowing that they were untested.

I think that what they are doing is bad for their business and doesn't really do the hobby much good either. If they just keep punching new jets out (or at least promising them) without taking at least a *reasonable* amount of time and care to see that the ones they already have out there are successful (again, anybody yet flown, or even *seen flown* a FEJ big F-18 or F-15) they are going to be a flash in the pan. A responsible rep. should make sure that they do that...

I'll try my hand at flying the big F-18 or F-15.. if someone else puts up the funds :) that being said, i've never owned or seen a FEJ in person, but i'm all up for new and innovative designs and models if they are "reliable" in the airframe construction and loads. I'm very interested in their F-14 kit, but i am lucky enough to have the mentality that i NEVER buy anything "new" when it first comes out and always give items 6 months to a year for the "beta testers" to work out the bugs. :)

Hear, Hear. The rhklenke record is stuck and repetitive trashing of FEJ is not helping anyone and is frankly boring.

Yes I do, its my first jet and I have asked for, and received, plenty of help from James. It has been an entirely positive experience thanks.

BTW, want to talk about boring, how about yet another thread about the next "FEJ Jet of the week" that they are bringing out... [:'(]

Bob

Bob,

Lord FEJ must have done you wrong because you are if nothing else persistent. Like a jilted bride dumped at the alter after mommy and daddy spent 50K on a dream wedding.

By the way if they "get it right Bobs way" will you change your mind and being that you will never buy another how will you know if things are fixed. In fact how will FEJ know if things are fixed to you requirements.

They could hire you to build and test new airframes but I'm afraid you might have burned that bridge. Now that I think of it that is an idea all jet manufacturers should think about. Have several of the kits built and flown independently by highly competent jet builders/pilots.

I wonder if any jet manufacturer would do that??

They do. Check the threads about Louis and Dom (jeteye and Major Woody) building and flying the Fei Bao jets. On the other hand, BVM builds and flys the crap out of his stuff himself...

Again, if you noticed, on the FEJ F-15 thread, I posted the problems I had and the fixes I used and indicated that I got the jet flying well. Time will tell now, how long it holds up, but I've said my piece on the F-15.

On the other hand, this is a *discussion* forum and when the FEJ reps. come on here once every two days and start a thread about "the next jet FEJ is doing" (aren't there some rules about "advertizing" in this thread?) they can expect some blow back. Nobody still has told me how they expect FEJ to be able to handle projects like the F-14 and Tornado, oh, and I see they are doing an F-35 too as well as the "Liberty." Its just not a reasonable approach to the business. They need to build their base of successfull, *working* designs before they take on these multiple projects - especially ones as complex as swing-wing jets. Oh, and BTW, in order to build an F-14 or Tornado, they are going to have to figure out what "carbon fiber" is and what's it used for.

I'll try a FEJ jet again when I start seeing their jets *fly* at flyins around the country. Last year, our F-15 was the only FEJ jet that attempted to fly at any events I attended and I spent *much* more time wrenching on it than flying it...

Do jeteye and Major Woody return the planes to Fei Bao after they are built or are they just given them cheap and get to keep them and fly them after they have built them??

These companies need to pull 2 arbitrary planes off the line during the first pass or if everyone is a one-of keep on top of it with builders/pilots like jeteye, Major Woody, and yourself and others. Having them built by independent builders and fliers. is better if everything is ok they can sell them or auction them for charity or whatever but a written construction notebook should be maintained with everything good, bad, or indifferent plus a detailed flight analysis. For doing this the builders should get paid.

That is the engineer in me but test, test, test, and then test some more. There are plenty of expert builders and fliers out here that are retired and would not mind a little extra cash from the hobby considering the current economy and market (gulp). Actually not a bad idea from someone to set up a little company like that.

I'll let you know what I think of my F-15E.

rhklenke 11-08-2008 11:42 PM

RE: FEJ Voting Results ....

Both Louis and Dom keep their planes and fly them. The feedback that they, and others, give to Wagner, as far as I can see, *is* incorporated into the production airplanes. That was one of the problems I had with FEJ. James was a saint in sending me replacements for the parts that were bad, but they were just the same old parts. Every time I suggested a change in something to try and make it better, I got the distinct impression that the factory wasn't interested in this feedback.

I don't know what actual deal Louis and Dom have, but reps are typically given a deep discount on the aircraft (but aren't usually "given" them ) and they build and fly them and help customers with them as well.
