Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
1 Attachment(s)
Hello guys,
I know this can be done, and hs been done before. i would like to get as much info about the subject as possible. I do have this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEmiz...eature=related and managed to find a few pics here and there but not a lot of information. Anyone made this conversion and can shed some light on the subject ? also, any other small turbines besides the Lambet Colibri ? thanks. PS - pics are from here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...0#post10590500 |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Hi,
I have three Kolibris now, one of them is mounted on a TwinJet. (One more on a Falcon25, and one on a Colt-V/Jet from PAF Models) The MPX TwinJet is the best suited of the MPX range for this turbine, but unfortunately no longer in production (unless ordered in batches of minimum 25 pcs on special request). There are still some kits around in a few shops, but more and more scarce to find (especially the blue one, the white one is easier). All parts and drawings are available from Martin Lambert at Lambert Turbines (see also his website and do a Search under "Bertrand Michels", who was one of the pioneers of this conversion, with a lot of information on his own website). One of his friends nearby makes beautiful conformal cell tanks. Lately, Martin Lambert started offering similar conversion parts (tanks, woodworks,...) for the MPX FunJet (as a substitute for the discontinued TwinJet), which is smaller in size and to my opinion less suited but still OK for the Kolibri. There was one demonstrated at the last JetPower2008 show. The Kolibri is a real gem, totally flawless turbine and worth every eurocent. Service is impeccable too. I highly prefer the Autostart version, you can see too many people messing up the start with wet flames by being nervous. Do also a Search on YouTube under 'Kolibri', there are quite a few videos out there now with all kinds of models. The Lambert Kolibri is the only commercial turbine available in this size class, but still with continuous further improvement and developement. Martin does not hesitate to swap previous parts for the latest ones. There are already some threads on the models and on the Kolibri on RCU. Best Regards, Nicolas. |

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...t=537867&pp=15 Hope this helps you further... There is also a (english) manual how to make the whole conversion, but I can't trace it right now... but anyway : Martin Lambert is perhaps the best source for all latest news. |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
I belive the MPX twister is better suited for kolibri.
...or at least - i am biased - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXi-h6y8fAQ it's bigger than the funjet, so it doesn't get small in the sky so fast, and it's a more stable platform for the kolibri (IMHO) mine is now flying with undercarriage, so there is no hazzle with hand launching the jet. - http://foto.mfk-falken.dk/galleri/vi...mName=album119 There is plenty power for takeoff from grass |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Hi Polarit,
Pls tell me about the styropor (?) caddie on the background ? Did you try this ? Nicolas. |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine

Spiderjets:
No i only use the styro cart to store the plane in, since i have the wheels permanently attached, it rolls around a lot in the back of the car I have since bent a few pianowires, and created a 'turntable' (for lack of better word?) for the nosewheel steering, now the front of the plane are only the wheel dia + 10 mm above ground. It is fastened with a 10x15mm abachi piece in the cable-groove, and a cabletie+0,8mm plywood in the cockpit floor. |

Any pics ? Always love new ideas and creativity, even the simplest ones...

Sure i have pics
The gear are made by lapping two big washers together, so they are flat, and the friction are almost gone A gear fork from a kavan nosegear are soldered on on of the washers, together with a piece of something to act as a horn. The other washer are soldered onto the two 'rails' that carries the undercarriage. The nosegear are helt together with a small spring, and M3 selflocking nut and bolt. All that are modded on the twister are a small hole dia 10mm, 10mm deep above the nut and spring |

So - you still enjoy the hazzle of setting up a catapult :D

RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Is there a US distributor for the Colibri?
Thank you |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Don't think so
Contact the producer and ask if there is no distributor, then you will have to buy it directly http://www.lambert-modellturbinen.de/ |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Spiderjets, So I guess you would recommend an eagar beaver son with good eyes and Binocs for the Kolibri, Yes? Grandchildren OK? |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
:D LOL
Ah, let them play... He was so happy when his grandpa gave him in the morning his fifty year old binocs to go to that fly-inn event ! It was of course totally useless, but at least he was happy. I wore the same binocs around my own neck when I was seven and my father took me 35 years ago for a maiden flight in an old Piper Cub. (That's were and when the virus for planes caught me.) He is now eight and flies small electro planes with a teacher system, and loves to press the foot pedal of the catapult for launching the TwinJet. With some luck and continued enthousiasm for dads' hobby, he won't need his father anymore for take off and landing next summer. [X(] Nicolas. |
RE: Multiplex Funjet with a turbine
Here you can see even grandchildren would be able to launch it :D
