DYNAMAX Conversion
 

Has anyone done or know someone who has converted a Dynamax to electric. I have half a dozen fan units sitting around looking for an electric set-up, if it possible. Any info would be appreciated

I believe there was an article in the last RCJI about the conversion and where to buy one. It looks like a real powerfull EDF setup.

It is the greatest conversion I have done with the Dynamax, also converted the Ramtec with good results also. I did mine myself earlier in the year and flew it in October 2008. I chose outrunners for the value in pricing and great potential. I used a Scorpion HK-4035 630 kv. Machined a few parts and 13lbs of thrust on 12s at about 80 amps. I flew mine on a Nitro Models Falcon 120. Moved the 15lbs 1000sq inch plane very well.

XPS notes they will have will have conversion kits to buy around Jan 09. Fred Baldwin has couple of conversions. All at varying prices.

It brings new life to old DF units, plus a lot of new builds for existing turbine kits.

Is there a set-up for 15-16 lbs thrust What motor/esc/batteries would be needed?

XPS and Fred Baldwin will have this setup. Fred I believe has it now, XPS is coming in the future.

I am sure that the new Scorpion HK-4035 800 kv will produce the the 16lbs you are looking for. However the cost will be high amp draw, shorter flights and higher c rated batteries, 25c to 30c will have to be used. Amp draw will be over 100 amps, you would be looking at the Spin 200 ESC. I wonder if we are not pushing the cost way up, comparing it to BVM setup and the cost of a turbine.

The conversion I did with the HK-4035 630 is a great compromise. It exceeds anything that Dynamax OS combination produced. I hope to have the new Scorpion soon to test and see what the real numbers are.

Since most of my modeling is done a budget, I strive for the bigest bang for my buck.

I bought packs from XPS, 5000 ma 6s packs 2 for 12s. The price they were selling them for fit my budget.

I have averaged any where from 5 to 6 minutes. I usually full power on the runway pass and then half throttle on the back side.

We flew the Falcon at the Nov AZ Jet Rally and it got pushed to over 7 plus minutes after flying almost full power for over 5 minutes. Then we got hung up with a turbine going dead stick. We ran out of juice on the final push to the runway and reset the esc to get the final boost for landing. Batteries were really hot, but you could still handle them, I put back into them 4700 ma and did not damage any cells. Pretty good batteries that XPS sold.

Normal flights I have been putting back around 3300 to 3800 ma. I have been still working on the exit diamater for the thrust tube. Since mine is only 6 inches long, I do not get the full results of a full lenght thrust tube.

Other brand of batteries may produce better flight times.

Found alot of info on the Dynamax conversionwith Neu motors and scorpion motors. I also found an Aeronaut 4000 fan producing 18lbs. Is that true? Anyone using or heard of it. Cant seem to find anyone selling it either
