Why are FlyeagleJet going so Big !
I was very pleased when Flyeagle Jet came into the hobby particularly as they started producing models of a nice size at a very reasonable cost. I have to say I am very dissapointed that they seem to now think that big is beautiful. I live in the UK and I understand that most jet models are produced for the US where things seem to be bigger. I tend to prefer models designed around 10 and 14 lb thrust turbines. They use less fuel, Fit ie cars better and are cheaper to run. They also of course need less runway to take off and land and less sky to fly in. Is this just me or do others agree.
I would also love to see some older jets such as a Mig 15, Hunter or Vampire............... God knows we have enough F16's, 15,s 18's e and all those other US jets...... Other countries built some very nice jets as well you know. Regards and Happy new year to all.............. Oh and please lets see some smaller Jets with more wing area. Dennis |

Couch potato, Do you compare elan and boomerang with a Hunter or a Vampire ??;)
I agree with Dennis, too much F16,F15,F18..... Jean-Philippe |

ORIGINAL: jeanfi Couch potato, Do you compare elan and boomerang with a Hunter or a Vampire ??;) Jean-Philippe Just paint a boomerang yellow, stick some RAF roundals on it, and a pilot, and "Viola" Instant Vampire, no one will ever know the difference at a 100 foot. I'm just stirring Big's Plumbs ! ;) |
RE: Why are FlyeagleJet going so Big !
Option 1, design what you need.
I could be wrong, but It seems to me that across the pond, many europeans unlike us americans depend less on the chinese to get interesting jet choices. Ive even seen some posts that state that they are waiting for the chinese to release a certain jet with a certain set of markings. Jeesh we are too lazy to even paint our own jets. just my opinion. |

Dennis It's all about marketing! My understanding is that mfg have to sell at least 50 of a particular design to make the design and production costs worthwhile. But being able to sell more is even better. They design and build what they think they can sell the most of, pure and simple. If you can put together 50 guaranteed orders for a particular design, I'm pretty sure they would build just about anything you wanted. For now, it seems, more modelers want larger aircraft, so that's what the mfg are providing. I saw the same thing in aerobatic models going from small .60 powered up to the 40% gas models. Now in that market they seem to be going back the other way with the super small electrics. Jet's, too for that matter. I guess the money is at the extremes of the hobby. Real small or real big!:) David S |

I too would like smaller jets as i fly and live near bigplumbs, I did ask for smaller jets on the flyeagle web site where you can choose to ask them what you would like to see next but if they will take any notice we will see.
i belive yt will be bringing out some smaller jets in 2009 just hope they are not heavy small jets. i am sure someone one day will capture this untapped corner of the market soon. |
RE: Why are FlyeagleJet going so Big !
Since I fly off of a 380 ft. runway my club members and myself are limited to smaller jets. The 1/8th F-16 and Rafale are ideal and I'd like to see more offerings for 14 - 20 lbs. turbines.
In addition to what David S. said I'm sure the profit margin is better on larger jets. Most customers are willing to pay twice as much for a large jet, and it doesn't cost twice as much to design, develop, tool, and manufacture one. Joe |

I would think it's just a matter of return on investment and a relative lack of interest compared to other types. While you Brits may get misty-eyed over certain types, the mention of Vampire or Hunter over here (a huge marketplace) and some other countries might just eleicit a confused "huh?" in response.
I personally would rather see a Hunter (beautiful speed record holder) or Vulcan out at the local field than another 16, but think the Vampire is too ugly and boring for even it's mother to love! Don't feel too bad about being under-represented though. There are MANY interesting but forgotten American types that aren't offered as kits due to the small potential market. How many of any of the "century series" jets have you seen around? For that matter, I don't see a lot of Mirages either (But I don't miss them, insert favorite French joke here;)). |

I would like to see AMA increase it's weight restriction to say 75lbs. I believe the Europeans have MUCH larger jets on average than Americans. The complaint here is that we can never have the giant scale jets like you guys get. Small is good do. I like a mix. Merry Christmas to all! Andy |

A manufacturer makes products they think they can sell, unless it´s more of a hobby for them than a business. The reason you see so many of the same type is they sell well. It´s all very nice to say there´s too much of this or that, but if the manufacturer can´t sell the kits, then they´re quickly out of business.
There are a LOT of airplanes I´d like to see for sure.. F-11F Tiger (long nose please.. the short nose was butt ugly), F-8J Crusader, F-101 Voodoo, F-105 Thunderchief, etc.. the list is long.. |
RE: Why are FlyeagleJet going so Big !
I agree, the jets are growing bigger each year, and I think more production to fit the P80 Size would be very welcome. Loads of P80s around the world who seeks a nice plane to live in. I hope for some classic jets for P80 in the near future like, Hawker Hunter, Vampire, Mig 15, and why not a smaller F15/F18 designed for P80.

Dennis Dennis, I actually found that from thirteen makers of jets we see available for our enjoyment, 23 models (scale) are of US planes and 24 are from other countries, i.e.: Sweden, Russia, England, etc. Also, there are a few companies that are producing the Mig 15, 21, 27, Bae Hawk, Lightning, Venom, Hunter Hawker, Draken, Javelin, and a few other earlier jets. You might consider looking at the models done by Grumania as many of their planes are suitable for the smaller turbines. |
