A Smiley Smoke Face
1 Attachment(s)
Hey what are the best smoke fluids out there that will not dissipate so fast? I have a bifurcated pipe and it has a wide smoke trail but it dissipates fairly fast. When I fly slower there is a better stream of smoke. Theses happy faces are not so easy to make…

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
I knew it ws only going to be a matter of time before someone started sky writing, very cool any word on colored smoke?

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
I have not found any color smoke yet, but I will be flying at "SUN ‘N FUN" and will try to find some or a source for it... I think a muti color stream would look cool...

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
That's a nice smiley.
Smiley faces and RC jets with smoke go waaay back!!! |

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
ianober, does the color smoke not burn as complete as the regular smoke oil?
|
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
Hey a white face with red eyes would look evil...
|
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
The colored smoke is just regular smoke oil with a dye added to it. But beware, anything that dye touches is now that color. The funny thing is that on the first batch we didn't add enough dye so Joe was sprayin PINK smoke, very nice!

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
Pink not a color I would choose.... hehehehehe but would make for a nice flower in the sky, for valentine’s day.

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
The one and only time I dabbled with coloured smoke was enough to put me off it for life. It stains everything and I mean everything it touches. The smoke itself stains and the dye is just unbelievable. I had drips that were there a couple of years later. It stains your skin, clothes, grass, tubing, festos, tanks, everything.....
You get the picture :D Not even worth it for the cool factor [:o] |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
I also read somewhere that if the wind is blowing in towards the crowd, the models and flightboxes etc also get covered in coloured spots.
Guess how popular you are then, go on, guess?? :) |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
Yep, happened to me and my stuff at Florida Jets a few years back . I was a little pi$$ed [:@] Looked cool though:D

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
Any idea how was the smokey smiley face done? was the outer circle done first or last? presume smoke oil used is TH super dry smoke oil???
Would also like to know at which speed it was done... Thanks advising. Regards, |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
How to do a smile face...
1. Start circle inverted at top "smoke on" 2. Turn off smoke at top where you started the circle. 3. Continue another circle inside smoke ring and and start smoke for smile and end smoke. 4. same circle slow down and pull tighter and do two short puffs for eye's in at top of the circle. All this can be done in two circle loops and lots of practice... |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
The Smiley face looks really good, regarding coloured smoke I seem to remember Sandor (Digitech) doing some trials with blue smoke, I think he had a problem explaining the blue coloured lawn grass!!!
The R.A.F aerobatic team the "Red Arrows" were doing a display at Hucknall some years ago (H.S. Gnats) and a local farmer complained about his blue cows!!!! [&o] |

Would also like to know at which speed it was done... Here is a link to a smiley face video shot at BITW. I believe it was done by Doug (aka afterburner1) with his Flash. The method used to draw it is similar to that described by Birdofpray (two concentric circles) though the order is slightly different (outside, eyes, mouth). As for the speed, the Flash appears to have only two speeds...off, and ballistic. Nice one, Doug Regards, Jim |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
I am amazed at how perfectly circular that loop is. I have been flying pattern for years and rarely do I get a loop that round. This might also explain why I don't win the nats! I was hoping that I would hear that it was photo shopped or something!
Nice Anthony |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
There were a few photo shopped pics going around and this could be one of them as the eyes don't match the mouth on the inside loop. But there also were some very good REAL ones too.

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
No photoshop on this picture... LOL
|
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
Bird,
Don't you have some video somewhere? |
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
causeitflies, why dont you give it a try and report back...
|
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
:D I will, when I get my Flash's smoke set up and the weather improves (April or May).
|
RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
I find it that the bifurcated pipes does a better job of smoke trails vs. single out let, when I had the ELAN it seemed to be ok but the EURO really displays the smoke really good with a Rhino lighting it.

RE: A Smiley Smoke Face
BTW weather as of 2PM was around 68 degrees... Nice here.... :D
