I heard that this is now AMA approved. Anyone tried one on a jet?? I can't imagine AMA approving for a jet but here is a prop from one of the guys in Arkansas:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqD2k...e=channel_page

here is the info that was sent to me regarding this:

Central Ark. Model Aviators Assn. members and friends,

CAMAA member Matthew Otts is the first club member to fly "FPV" (First Person Video), the flight was at the old Saline County airport in Benton recently. This type of Radio Controlled model flying was approved by the Academy of Model Aeronautics recently, and consists of the pilot viewing his flight from the plane using a video headset wirelessly connected to a camera in the plane, assisted by another pilot on a buddy box transmitter with a direct view of the plane. This technology is fairly new to the R/C world and the quality will improve as time goes on, but the prospect of viewing your flight from your R/C plane is astounding! According to Matthew, the quality of the video stream is much better on the headset than that presented on YouTube. Perhaps the quality would be much better with the sun higher in the sky. Also, it appears that the camera can be repositioned from left to right while airborne.
Check out his flight on YouTube at the URL below:
Here are some comments from Matthew:
"The headset is so clear, that you can see people in their cars driving down the road. If you wear glasses, take them off... it has an independent focus for each eye.
Go to headplay.com and click the "product" button, then click the "bundles" button. Next you have towards the bottom, all the "FPV" setup's they have. very cool. If you want to find some info on the camera, TX and RX go to futurehobbies.com they have some cool stuff too."

Andy,

Yes, AMA has a Code 550. Read it when you get a chance. It will explain their viewpoint as far as coverages goes. Right now there is a weight limit with FPV due to the dangers involved. Take a look at the following thread:

http://www.rcgroups.com/video-piloting-fpv-rpv-469/

Here are some links to videos I made over at Georgia Jets:

http://www.vimeo.com/3212085

The Easy Star has an F-16 type of hud used for navigation with a gps. The Electro Stick has a different type of On Screen Display, a DAKAR OSD, used for navigation as well.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Scott

BTW- Headplay makes a good set of goggles. FatShark is another brand made specifically for FPV. RvisionD goggles from Range Video are what I'm using now with good results.
