Nitro DF plane idea wanted
I'd like to find a good DF for my first jet. I already have an OS 77VRDF, no pipe or fan unit yet.
Any ideas on an airframe? Would I be better off keeping the 77 in the box and getting something else? Any jet advice would be great. I know very little about them. Most of my buds are flying turbines and my wallet can't keep up with that thus the DF idea. Thanks. |

either get a byro fan and find a Byron Mig-15 or get a Dynamax fan and get a Yellow A/C Starfire
both of those are a load of fun on a 77 |
RE: Nitro DF plane idea wanted
Up here, you better build light if using a .77!:D We struggled with .65s and .77s in the early days and the .91 was a blessing. Too bad you didn't come to the Jefco auction. There was an updated Ram 500 that went for $850. Sounds high perhaps but a new .91 and fan would be $500 to $650 plus the cost of high nitro fuel would put you right in the ball park with that turbine after one summer of flying. And the 500 would fly the .91 size jets very nice.
If you want I'll GIVE you a new Jet Hangar Hobbys F9F Couger fuse plus one that was started. (.45 size jet) You will have to cut your own foam wings and formers. (I would extend the wings by 2" each panel). With a .77 and Dynamax it will fly nice.....just lots of work to build! I could bring it to the Wngs Over The Rockies Expo this saturday if I go. |
