How do you hold your transmitter sticks

I know what I was taught back in the mid 60's by my Instructor, "Mr. Tom Cook". And to this day I remember being Scolded on the FIRST LESSOM:
So what is the best way to hole the sticks?

i pinch my sticks, gives ME much more controllability and precision, I've always referred to the other way as 'Dumb Thumbs' :)

I never saw a real pilot fly a real (full scale) plane with his thumbs. Since I fly both, I grab the stick with my thumb and fingers...just feels right. However, it boils down to how you learned originally. I believe the survey will continue to show that lots of people do it both ways. I've never been able to determine that one way is "better" or makes a better pilot.

I use thumbs but I wish I would learn how to pinch the sticks and use a tray. I'm convinced this is a more precise way to fly.

I use thumbs w/ a Tx strap. Ive tried "pinching" the sticks, but my finger index and thumb fingers just aren't long enough for the "pinch" method to be comfortable for me.

Obviously what you need to do is get a tray and start with your simplest/cheapest airplane and go for it. When I did it about 6 years ago, it actually wasn't a bad transition. It probably took me about 15 or 20 flights on the basic airplane before I moved up and started flying more complex stuff with it...

Give it a shot.

Cook always told me that if you were using only the thumbs, that the stick could get away from you when you needed it most. So I have always held it with the thumb and pointing finger.
Not saying it is right or wrong , it is just what I do. I have very short fingers.

if you have short fingers, shorten the stick length. i fly with my sticks all the way in, it gives ME more precision and control (again this is just ME, it may not work for YOU). when i fly one particular fellow club members planes he has his sticks all the way out at maximum length, it makes me feel like I've got to move the sticks a mile, he also flies with expo and the long stick lengths make that expo seam to be much more pronounced due to the longer sticks requiring more movement.

I fly thumbs, tried a full season flying pattern with a tray and fingers, but some habits die hard I guess, after a full season of practicing I still couldn't get used to it, so back to thumbs I went.

I admit that I think that pinching the sticks is likely to allow for more precise control, but when I learned to fly in 1973, all the local guys in Baltimore used thumbs so that is what I learned to do. I tried to re-teach myself to pinch a few years ago. Could not do it. I guess its the old dog, new trick phenomenon! [:o]

I like the sticks at about medium length. I also crank up the spring tension so it's easier to give aileron or elevator without accidently moving the other. Helps with maneuvers like vertical rolling climbs.

FYI, the Blue Angels fly with about 20lbs of forward trim. That way they always have tension on the stick, which they feel gives them more precise control........no, I don't recommend that for r/c!

Left hand is Thumb, Right hand is pinching the stick. No neck strap and I guess I hold it high up on the chest( resting on the belly);)

I guess I must suffer from Dumb thumbs and a lack of precision then as its thumbs for me all the way!

Thumbs for me. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] With stick tension turned up, and use a neck strap. Most people I see fly don't even have their hand on the L stick anyway, except to slide the throttle up or down...

That's what flying helicopters does for you - you learn to integrate the left hand into the equation. I would think that flying pattern does the same thing for you...

i fly both sticks all the time, it could be because i flew helis from the get go but i use rudder constantly in flight on fixed wing too.
