need help setting up 12x......
 

hi,

Just got me a 12x ...... how are you guys setting up the rudders and nose wheel steering so you can trim without effecting the rudders also i plan on using two channels for elevator and the rest y together. if i should use 2 channels ,which fuctions should be on 2 channels and how would you do it. i am setting up a yellow f-15 .

I do a program mix rudder -aux channel of your choice, lets say aux 4 for example. I then go to to the system mode and go to device Sel and assign aux 4 to whatever swith , lever or knob you want it on. i like on the knob on the front marked aux 4 or the knob on top marked aux 6. and ofcourse on that same Device Sel option you want aux 4 to be "ACT" (active). Now I put the airplane together and push it on the drive and fine tune the knob that I have nosewheel sterring until the airplane rolls dead stright with no crosswind. I then go to the device sel option again and make aux 4 INH (inhibited). That way if the knob gets moved off the straight rolling postion the airplane still rolls straight becase this knob is now deactivated. Rudder trim will ONLY trim the rudder.

I may be wrong, but I think when you disable aux 4 it will drive the servo to the knobs 12 o'clock position regardless of where you had the aircraft tracking straight. you should have just used sub trim on the aux 4 channel if you want to have it disabled...



I like to use the small trimmers above the gimbles, they are not easily bumped like a knob.....

im confused is the rudder and steering y together on one channel or do you use two channels one for rddder and one for steering and then programmed ummm.......

Dustin, now that you mention it I think you are correct. The channel must be left active and sub trim can be used to fine tune so that the airplane rolls straight with the selected channel in nuetral.

If you "y'them there is no way to not have rudder trim effect steering trim. You use two channels with a program mix. I suggest you call Horizon product support an have them talk you thru setting up a program mix. They have some very knowledgeable and helpfull tech support guys. I called them just a couple of days ago for a similar programming issue that I couldnt figure out. He knew instantly how to do it and had me taken care of in no time.

Congrats on your 12X purchase; I love mine and I wish you many successful flights with yours.

Regarding the rudder & nose wheel steering setup, this is the setup that I understand is typical.

Hook up rudder(s) to rudder channel
Hook up NWS to an aux channel (lets say Aux 4 for now)
Using Device Select, assign the L Trim to Aux 4
Mix rudder to Aux 4 using a mix activated by the retract switch

As for what to do with the center knobs, here's my selection

yes mix it and move the trim to the aux trim by the rudder stick easy makes it east to trim wile rolling

Just checked my settings on my 12X so here you go...

Plug rudder servo into rudder channel, plug steering servo into aux4 channel:

In (17) Device Select inhibit aux 4,

In (5) Prog mix 1 mix rudder to aux 4, my travels set at L 100% and R 100%

In the same menu in Prog Mix 1 scroll to the box named gear and select either 0 or 1; the reason for this is to prevent the steering servo from operating when the gear is retracted. The 0 or 1 setting will depend on the servo reverse setting for the retract servo, the type of retract unit used, etc. Just flip the gear switch to gear up and see if the steering servo still operates. If it does just change the 0 or 1 value.

I have been running this setup for a while now and it works well. It will allow you to have individual adjustment for steering. You can use the aux4 sub trim for steering trim since you really shouldn't need to change the steering adjustment all the time.

thank you all for your help, very much appreciated, where else can you go and get the help like you can here on RCU. HOW do you set up your your other fuctions meaning which can be y ed or which should use two channels i am going to use 2 channels for the elevator for sure. thanks agian

with a 12ch receiver you shouldn't need a Y on anything in an F-15 unless you've got an extravagant collection of bells and whistles.
