Another DC-10 incident.

But in this time with good luck , so probably it wouldn´t make the news worldwide.. that´s why I´m posting it here:

"Today, a cargo DC-10 lost a unespecified part of a turbine right after takeoff hitting 12 homes in Manaus, Brazil and destroying 4 of them. Incredibly no one was hurt in the incident and the airplane landed at his destination in Colombia. People who witnessed the incident said that "it looked like the end of the world"
Lucky dudes.. I´ll try to get more info as soon is it available.

And please gentleman, don´t let this turn into a opinions match . R/C jet modelers want to know and discuss anything about jet aviation and this is the right place for them doing it.

I just came out of Manaus the other day back on our way back to the USA, there were alot of DC-10's there. Some looked pretty good, some looked interesting to say the least!

Actually, this is not the right place for doing it, there is a full scale forum on RCU for this purpose, the RC jets forum is for discussion about RC jets.....

RE: Another DC-10 incident.

Yes, I understand, but that forum is about full size airplanes and not only jets, so I and most friends here don´t usually go there...

and it is impossible to deny that any full size jet aviation info (interesting by itself) is very relevant and sometimes crucial for the safety and enjoyment of r/c jets... so perhaps we can have this kind of info there, as long people act in a civil way.

This was an interesting comment:

"Manaus Authorities reported, that the control tower of Manaus was notified of the debris on the ground and radioed the crew of the DC-10. The operation of the aircraft was not impaired, so that the crew continued to Colombia."

I highly doubt that, in this country, the FAA would agree that on a 3 engine aircraft, loosing an engine (especially having parts fall off of it), would leave "the operation of the aircraft [was] not impaired." Any crew that "continued to Colombia" would likely be looking for a different way home once they got there...

The 707's and the DC 8's I have seen there and at Campinas are even more exciting!

Yes, that was amazing.. going from Manaus to Colombia is not a short trip and making it leaving parts of the airplane at takeoff is nothing but incredible.

By the way the closest call I have in my modelling career was when some 2 pounds of lead fell from a plane and hit ground half meter right at my side.. the funny part is that this dude´s plane flew and landed better than ever after loosing this CG fine adjustment..;)

Talking about Campinas last november happened one fine r/c jet event.. this year will probably happen too.

It would be nice to be there to visit the jet show, but we don't know our schedule that far out. I am still waiting for another trip to Curitiba so we can say "hello"!

Members here asked to be able to discuss full scale jet aviation and the powers that be agreed to it.

How could you not include full scale when discussing R/C Jets?
The thing I find humorous is how all the ego nuts come out here.
Heck, I was the first man on the moon but you don't see me bragging about it.

So it was you?

Glad to see that there were no injuries with this incident and that we are able to discuss full-scale jets in this forum.

Faithfully,
