Expo and throws..

The last items I would like to research before my maiden is expo and throws.

The manual calls for 40mm on elev, 15-20mm on ailerons and 25mm on rudder. It also called for a CG that according to everyone here as nose heavy.

I have never used expo on anything but an experienced jet pilot tells me it makes things alot smoother. I can understand that but I don't want to take a chance with another unknown on an already nerve racking maiden.

Have any of you guys used expo for your first time ever on jets? Is it tough to fly without it?

Thanks! Pete

Most everyone uses expo to some degree. Use expo....you can always remove it later if the controls are too soft. Trying your maiden without out it may leave you wishing you had put some in......as you stand over your smoking hole in the ground. [:@]

Pete, another thing to consider is aileron differential.

Set this up in the TX so the 'down' aileron (in roll) doesn't travel as far down as the 'up' aileron travels up. Maybe some aileron-winged '16 pilots can chime in about if it's needed or not on an F-16. This reduces unwanted control surface drag in turns in most planes.

All my jets have min 35% expo ail and elevator. I hate to say it, but if you were my jet bud I'd call you a dumb ***** for not putting it in.

He Pete:

Be careful with expo. Futaba expo are inverted than JR expo. While in JR radios expo is + (I guess), in Futaba is -

I set the expo in my Futaba 12FG +30% and in my maiden I had over control because at the begining of the stick movement, I had full response. Luckily I could land safe.

After setting - 30% Expo, I could fly very nice

Pete, I have 40% expo on my jets, would not fly without it! It makes the flight sooo much smoother, great for landing and take-offs!

Pete I have 1/6 scale and used 30% expo on first flight, having never used it before. Worked great I am VERY glad I used it. Good luck.

Ok thanks guys. Ill setup 30% tonight.

I still feel a bit uncertain about my CG.

Jay, you jacked my avatar[X(] That's a 1/8th scale.

Pete, I use 30% on elevator and 40% on ailerons. Ailerons have 20mm throw which is a lot. You shouldn't need any differential and maybe negative differential per instructions.

Mark Yes I did take yours it was just too cool. I would go with the recommended CG.

Hi,

Expo depends also from kind of Control the jet: If you use only the tailerons you can reduce Expo to 10%-15%.

All first flights of my jets have expo on elevon and aileron at least 12% (JR/GRAUPNER MC24).

With expo you can have a smooth looking flight even when the pilot is ....shall we say....not so smooth.

I never used expo till I started flying jets. Now I use expo on all flight surfaces of all my planes. Makes me look better.:D

What about the throw for the elevator ?

On an other thread I saw 1.75 inches (total or up and down (so 3 inches)) ?
