Multiple Rates..
 

I set up 3 different rates on elevator and 2 for aileron. Elevator normal mode consists of the recommendations from everyone here and locally which is 100% endpoints with 30% expo. Elevator D/R 1 is 120% endpoint with 20% expo and D/R 2 is 140% endpoint with 0 expo.

Aileron normal is 100& endpoint with 20% expo and D/R 1 is 110% endpoint with 0 expo.

I intend to fly using the standard configurations but since my F-16 is heavy I thought having some additional throw available is a good idea (D/R 1). Obviously elevator D/R 2 is intended for when I am feeling very comfortable and want to try some high AOA, slow landings and just get a feeling in general for 0 exponential, The same goes for aileron.

Since I have been made aware of the substantially large envelope of elevator throw for the F-16 I think this is a good idea.

Im sure that some of you have similar programming..? Does anyone recommend that I NOT change the rate of expo for the different throw settings?

What happens if your "normal" rates are too much? You haven't given yourself an 'out' in case you need LOW rates.

I would suggest having the suggested rate in the middle and having a low & high on either side just in case it is needed, but this is just my recommendation, take it for what it is worth. Some suggested rates are too much in some cases and it is not a fun time to find this out during a maiden flight and have no options but 'more' rate. Give yourself the best chance for a successful maiden flight especially since it's your first.

I agree with what George has said. The other thing I would like to suggest, is even though you want the high rate for high AOA stuff, put expo in. It's for that kind of stuff that expo is very important, without expo you could end up in a porpoising effect with your jet, at low speeds this can translate into a stall pretty quick. You want to have that high rate to hold the nose up, but you want it to be really smooth, having no expo in there is going to make it very touchy.
This is in big part why the 3D planes are set up with crazy throws and LOTS of expo. On a really high rate, you should have enough expo to still make it feel like you are on a normal rate around center with the extreme throw towards the end of your stick movement.

Pete, George, Hit it on the head. A good ol Va. boy. Untill you fly it, you don't know what you need or what your thumbs like to feel. You may need to go higher or lower to feel comfy. Leave yourself some on each side of what you call normal. Hooker
