What would be the best base color for an ORANGE top coat ? Planning on doing this F4

I would think if you used a white base, the orange would be slightly "brighter" than with a gray base and would depend on the exact shade you are trying to achieve in the end. Any idea what they use as a base on the full scale?

Personally, I'd probably go gray to keep the other colors on the scheme in check.

Just my personal opinion though.

Hi U.Joe, usually it is better to paint the plane white before applying any orange, however this particular F-4 has a faded orange tone and it would be better to use a very light gray paint as a base or even a "colored" primer with a lighter shade of grey.

White-I have painted a lot of orange as the navy trainer scheme is my favorite. Scotty

PPG DP74 is a redish rusty colored epoxy primer, one light coat of that over the jet will give you an even shade of the epoxy, spray your orange color 15 minutes after your epoxy and it will be nice and even and a pretty natural shade of the mixed color, over white will be brighter, over grey will green it out a bit.
