anybody have any information about X-treme Jets kits, a subsiduary of Skymaster, related to quality of their kits, landing gear, etc? Mostly interested in the Dragon.

X-streme jets may be purchased ONLY from Skymaster USA. As a former Skymaster Dealer who sold 6 Dragons and currently flying one, I can say it is a delight to fly. The presentation in the air is awesome.

Let me know with any and all questions you may have.

Eric

Will a P-80 push it??

RCI/Skymaster 05-12-2009 02:52 PM

RE: X-treme jets

It would be on the slow side with a P-80. I dont think you would be happy with the performance.

This is an 80" wing jet. I would go with somthing in the 30-36Lbs class.

Its a big stable jet and performs well.

GreenAcre:

Anton recommends no more than a 30lb turbine. My Dragon came in at under 30lbs . . .27lb to be exact. I am flying it with our Jet Central Super Eagle which is more than enough! It accelerates going vertical in the roll mode. Flying at full throttle, this jet picks up speed very, very fast due to the clean airframe.
I made no changes to the airframe other than a hard wood dowel inside the wing tube (personal assurance) for additional strength.

Eric Clapp

RE: X-treme jets

Thanks for the help. I have a Rhino which I can turn down. I want to do some aerobatics with this. I checked out the web site and I was suprised how inexpensive it is compared to the Skymaster kits, so I have to wonder if something going to come apart on it. We have all seen wings blowing apart and stuff fluttering to a crash. I recently saw a vertical fin on well know quality kit F-16 come apart, so i would like to be sure about quality before considering one. thanks again.

thanks, great video. Have you had any problems with retract cylinders, struts, brakes or anything else? landing gear stuff is 1/3 the price of SM gear, so you have to wonder, what gives?

Get the dragon, but use Robart 635. Great plane for the money. When landing full flap, it almost stop in the air without stall.

Friend got one. Lost it when doing trying to loop in knife edge. Rhino power. Seems the horn got loose, causing a high speed snap.. crash.

RE: X-treme jets

how is the quality of the landing gear struts and brakes? Also, how is it to balance? i heard it needs a lot of weight in the nose. How is the mounting system for main gear? If you land a little hard, will the gear come through the wing?

rcand 05-14-2009 03:31 PM

RE: X-treme jets

I heard the robarts was a better choice. how about the struts and brakes? Also heard you need to reinforce the wing tube.

avicom 05-14-2009 05:27 PM

RE: X-treme jets

If you go Rhino, is good choice is to reinforce the wing tube. No need with 30 pound trhust engine. The mounting rails for the gear plates are strong, also a cloth of carbon will stiff'en up for those more than hard landings. Plane Edgar talked about was mine. I sold it prior to maiden. And also regret selling that plane after I saw it fly. It's a shame it was totaled. Go with robart gear 635 will do the rigth job with her.

How about pitch change, when using flaps? Have a older wood-wing version. Front tank makes it nose-heavy, is it a problem? Balanced with empty tanks.

RE: X-treme jets

If you use the Robart 635, what struts and brakes do you use? Anybody using the bypass that X-treme offers? If so, is it big enough for a Rhino?

xphstos 05-17-2009 09:08 PM

RE: X-treme jets

yes the bypass is fine...i only use the buttom piece</p>
