14MZ PROGRAMMING HELP NEEDED

I'm trying to program Flaperons unto an F-16, with flight conditions, so that during takeoff and landing(flaps down) the ailerons act as flaps and elevator becomes ailevator, then once flaps up is given, it converts to standard aileron/elevator operation.

Any of you 14MZ Gurus out there, help would be greatly appreciated.

That's easy....

Turn off transmitter, put in case, take case back to store, get refund.

Then...

Go back home, pull out your 12X and re-post your question.

Just messin' Dave. I can barely set my servo end-points, let alone mix something to something else.

Good luck....at least I bumped your question back up to the top! ;)

David - let me bump your question right up again with another question: Why would you want to
do something so complicated? My friend Staale here in Norway tried that, but almost all the F-16 (1/6 scale)
pilots here - and there have been quite a few - have ended up flying this plane with tailerons only,
and after 130 flights I can say that it flies great that way in all conditions, and even though I have flaps, I have tested them
once in flight and never landed with them once, and still get applause for my smooth landings!! [8D]

No offence - just my advice!! :D

BTW - I fly mine with the 14MZ and I am VERY happy with it!

RE: 14MZ PROGRAMMING HELP NEEDED

the only Futaba experience i get is from setting up stuff for other folks but I've had my fair share of it and IIRC the 14mz (and other Futaba) can only do one wing configuration at the time and the requested setup is two wing configurations. being you can't use two, you'll have to set up flaperons, then use a mix for the ailevators and when flaperons are activated have ailerons goto 0% so they won't move and have that switch activate the mix for the stabs to kick in.

RE: 14MZ PROGRAMMING HELP NEEDED

David,

Interesting programming problem. Let me help get started, I have a Yellow F-15 that has flight conditions linked to the flap switch .. I have 0 flap, 15 degrees and 45 degrees for flap travel. The same switch also gives me 3 flight conditions, and I vary the taileron mix by condition.

Start by seting up the elevators as ailevators, and on the programming screen (AILEVATOR on the model menu) you'll see setting for percent elevator travel and percentage aileron travel.

You'll also see the flight condition name on the same screen. The default is for all the programming to be the same in all flight conditions, and you have to go into each screen where the flight condition will change something, and tell the radio which things will change when conditions are switched. You want to do this for the AILEVATOR funxtion. Notice the "Group" label on the right hand side of the screen. You need to change this to single (SNGL) to tell the radio that the settings on this screen can change with conditions. Then (presuming you have already created the conditions and linked them to the flap switch), you move the switch to each condition, and separately program the %elevator and %aileron. For one condition, you want aileron function at 0%, for the other, a non-zero amount, maybe 20-25%.

As you flip the switch that changes the condition .. while on the AILEVATOR screen, you'll see the condition name change on the screen, and the settings will flip from the amount you programmed on one condition to the amount you programmed on the other. May sound complicated, but I think you will find it simple with the radio sitting in front of you.

On my F-15, in normal flight, the ailerons are quite effective, so at 0 degrees flap, I have 0% aileron function. But at low airspeeds, the ailerons get a little mushy, so for the condition that is corresponding to 15 degrees of flap, I have 20% aileron function and for 45 degrees flap, I have 25%. This give me progressively more "taileron" function as the plane slows down. I started by experimenting with a separate switch for flaps and flight conditions, but found it convenient to make the one switch (SC in my case) do both.

Next, your aileron question. I have not tried this but let me suggest something. Go to the function menu and change the group setting .. look for the button labelled "Gr." and set it to SNGL just like you did on the AILEVATOR. For one flight condition, set the aileron so it does nothing .. change the "J1" in the control column to NULL ... in the other flight condition, leave it as J1. This turns aileron control on and off for the two flight conditions.

Next set up an offset pmix (on the PROG MIXES screen on the model menu, push the "mode" button to change to an offset mix .. that is, a mix with no master ... only a slave) .. and then go into the mix, set aileron as the slave, and set the offset percentage as desired.

I believe this will do the trick .. let me know how it goes...

Tor,

Probably for the same reason your friend tried it, JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT:). This is the FlyEagle 1/5.5 I'm setting up. They have their model set up with standard ailerons and elevator. No setup for tailerons. So I just figured I try something different with this fancy 14MZ radio I bought. I saw some pictures of a full scale F-16 in high alpha flight with flaps partially down, just thought it might be neat to duplicate. It'd make a great photo!:D

Dave's suggestion will work. The trick is to setup mixes such as elevators act as ailevators and ailerons act as flaps and aileron. Then you can either enable some of the mix only in some condition by changing group to single or set the mix rate to be 0%

Dave. Contact Ron Long.

He has my old F-16 with the exact program you want. It works awsome.

Just out of curiousity, how would one do this on a JR 10 or 12x?

with two mixes via flight modes.
