Rpm problems...
Hi I have an engine with a magnetic rpm sensor, when you spin the shaft the readings are all over the place, I have removed the magnet but when you spin the shaft it still reads... Thanks Antony</p> |
RE: Rpm problems...
Put the magnet back in and get a strong magnet and run it around the inlet a few times. That should sort it out.
What engine is it? Jason |
RE: Rpm problems...
Hi
Its a home built one, I hve taken the sensor out and run a magnet accross it, but it seems anything metalic seems toset it off. I thinking maybe new sensor? Thanks Antony |
RE: Rpm problems...
has the sensor anything metal on like bolts etc?

RE: Rpm problems...
The sensor has 2 bolts securing it but out of the engine anything metallic sets off massive fluctuations in readings anything from 2,000 to 160,000. I have adremel with an rpm display, I mounted a magnet on it andthe sensor reads, butbeing about 1,000rpmout.
If the magnet is moved about then the readingsfluctuate. I have ordered a simple sensor to make my own see if that helps.. Antony |

Had this problem long time ago with my kj66. a) change the position of your rpm sensor b) try to separate all the wires of your rpm sensor if you have them together with egt sensor and do not mix them with any of the starter, ground or glow wires just keep the rpm sensor wires by its self . and try again it should work fine. Anthony:
When you say you spin the shaft are doing it manually (with your hand) or with the electric starter while on the auto start phase? |
