Aeroloft

I placed an order for a set of dry transfers from Aeroloft in the scheme of VMFA-235 Death Angels F-4J's stationed at Danang and MCAS Kaneohe. They are sized for the JHH F-4. All I can say is WOW! All nomenclature, warnings etc are included. Geez, even EVERY panel number was included. These were custom made for me, and at $185 its a bargain IMO.

Aeroloft now has all my business when it comes to markings for my models!

There's a lot of mixed feelings regarding Aeroloft. I am one of the happy customers. Never had an issue with them.

3 for 3 on my jets as well. Aeroloft even replaced some for me that were not coming off the backing correctly. It was a small number but still were replaced no questions asked. Deflector shields up[sm=49_49.gif]

Perhaps they have improved. The set I ordered for my Eurofighter 3 years ago looked like it was done by a four year old with a crayon. They will never get my business again.

my experience was over-all good with them. I was pleased with the price and the support i got from them, but the artwork left alot to be desired, but i expected it to be b/c of the low price.

Sadly, I share your sentiment Dean. I recently ordered a set of transfers for a Yellow F18 I'm building in Canadian colors that they listed on their site ($415). I took great effort to send them a CD of pictures and high res scans and placement sheets of a highly accurate 1:32 decal set, as well as prints of the full size plans to aid in getting it right. Frankly I don't think they reviewed my data and while refusing to send me a proof in advance they assured me it would come correct.

The first 3 pictures below demonstrate the quality of the work I was sent.

On the flip side I went back to getstencils.com whom I have worked with in the past and not only did they create transfers, but we also worked together to create paint masks for the entire scheme. Many proofs back and forth, samples sent priority mail, corrections made, stencils resent...all told we went back and forth a half dozen times. Total cost less than half of aeroloft's price. The pics 4-6 below show some samples of the getstencils product, and the last few pictures show my painting progress so far using getstencils.com 's stencils. Great folks to deal with, trust me.

The reason I didn't start with them was that I was assured by aeroloft that their set was complete and accurate. live and learn.

The final picture is the full size scheme I'm duplicating. I'll post pictures when the entire model is complete.

LOL. I absolutely know what you mean ... plenty of others have had similar experiences with Cindy. My buddy John Moda had a custom "Miss Marilyn" decal that showed an ugly-as-sin brunette (must have been a DIFFERENT Marilyn than the one we all know of), and a custom red prancing horse that seems to have been drawn by the same 4 year old that you got your decals done by.

Just ask Billy about the "Insignia Blue" decals for his F16, that were pitch black instead of blue, or ask Johhny Hernandez about his experiences dealing with the PMS queen.... and plenty more, that a search in this forum will show up.

On the plus side, if Cindy hadn't been such a beeyach when I did business with her, I might never have discovered the pleasure of dealing with Ralle and his incredible Tailormade Decals. The man is an absolute pleasure to deal with, he is a perfectionist who goes out of his way to ensure that you get what you need, and his product is fantastic. Ditto for Bryan from http://www.aerographix.biz/ ... if you are still looking for a good supplier, these guys are hard to beat IMO.

Were all of the colors correct?

Yes, colors are correct but the scheme I chose was pretty simple. The sizes are correct too. Im just blown away by what I recieved-every bit of nomenclature, warnings, placards etc. especially every individual panel number and access hatch. Hard to believe Aeroloft had problems in the past, but as far as Im concerned Cindy got my order right:)

The Aerographix link looked good-for prop planes, but not 1 jet is shown and no jet testmonials from customers, so I cant really compare the 2. I did look at Promark-but what they had to offer isnt all that great. Plus, these two vendors offer pretty generic stuff. I got from Aeroloft what I need to complete an exact scale model. So Im very happy.

I am in the works with Aeroloft for my Ziroli Bearcat Rare Bear from 1974 season in the US thrift 7-1/4% Special purple and white trimmed in gold. Cant wait for that one! As for Aeroloft, they have treated me well, and provide a great product. And Im fortunate to have missed whatever problems they may have had in the past. But, being the self centered hobbyist I am, as long as I have positive experiences, Ill keep coming back;) And if there is a problem, I know Cindy will make good.

Hmmmm once bitten twice shy, the "kid with crayons" comment best sums up my experiences also and thats doing them a compliment I reckon! Aeroloft decided they would also keep instead of returning all my rather expensive 1/48 scale decal set that I sent to them for documentation purposes ONLY to create my 1/6 scale decals. What I was sent actually finally back was pretty laughable and unusable, and I only had to pay $350 for the whole experience!!! No no never ever again for this bloke either [:'(]
I make all my own decals nowadays using water slide inkjet decal paper.....;)

P.S. Sean I can totally relate to your F-18 project. Its a good thing Southern Ontario winters are so long eh.... I made all of my own masks and decals for my 20th anniversary bug

Cheers- Marty

I don't have the computer skills that some of you guys have to create my own graphics and have not bought from Aeroloft in over 10 years.
I sure have been happy with the work that Jerry and Jeff at Pro-mark have done for me thou. I have had markings for three F100s that I built for customers and my personal Tam F18F. And soon will need some more for the BVM F4s that are being built right now.
Pro-mark may not be the lowest bidder, but then again with as much work that goes into a project its worth the extra few bucks to get it right!! Pro-mark has a cool video that he sends with the graphics that shows what goes into making these things and it amazed me!
I guess its who ever you like.

RE: Aeroloft

I'll second what was said about getstencils.com Vike DeLuyck is a great person to deal with and the dry transfer markings she made for me were perfect. Like what was said before, we sent several proofs back and forth via email before she did the actual work. You can't go wrong dealing with her.

Only $350?! What a bargain. :) I feel your pain. I also rec'd a nomenclature set for a 1:5 scale P-51 (pretty common model and size, don't you think?!) but not only was the quality low, but the size was wrong and they couldn't provide a placement chart. I ended up using getstencils.com and couldn't have been happier. For me, there are alternatives to Aeroloft and i'll be happy to use them. I've also have great experience with promark and tailormade.
Btw, your bug looks fantastic!! It's such unique scheme...toughest job was choosing it over a dozen other cool CAF demo schemes.

Holla ! Is transfer from getstencils.com are fuel resistant ? If not, what are your doing to protect them ?

Me neither. ;) We have 2 acres and it takes a crew of 4-5 about 20 mins to knock it out. It would take me the whole weekend....and there goes any chance to fly. ;)

They are not fuel proof. A clear coat needs to be added over them...plus the clear also protects them against normal wear and tear from handeling.

I have bought two sets from here: http://www.tailormadedecals.com/

His work is top notch he includes documentation and the setting and cleaning solutions.

Ralf will scale them to your project perfectly. He also cuts paint masks if needed.
