XPS 2.4 Module ??
How many guys trust flying their jets with the Xtreme Power System (XPS) 2.4 module? I know several guys who had this system and have since replaced it for either FAAST or Spektrum. Just wondering if anyone trust flying their jets with this system.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Buy the FAAST or the Spectrum A.S.A.P...

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
The XPS system was sold as the IFS system from Graupner, mine locked out four times in one flight, lucky to get the airframe back on the ground without any damage, Graupner have recalled all the early IFS systems and have replaced it with a different FHSS system, Graupner refunded my monies, but once bitten twice shy, I will not trust this system in anything let alone a jet.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
K,
Everyone I know who has flown on the XPS system lost their jets soon after starting to use it. Maybe on a car or boat...but not on an airplane in my opinion. Beave |

No, no, no don't!
I did'nt loose a jet just a nice plane - first flight lock-out - bam :-( marcs |

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Just do a search here and you'll find plenty of info. from those of us that have tried it.
I tried it as soon as it was released and I put it in a "beater" prop plane for testing and thought it was useable. I was one of the lucky ones; although it locked out a couple times on its first flight, I did not lose my Bobcat in the process. It was immediately removed and never used again. I'm not sure about the newer system, but it would be hard to trust again no matter what. FASST is what I use now. |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
XPS.....no...[X(]
I have almost 3 years on FASST now, not one lock out or loss of signal. My 2C worth. Paul |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
I bought XPS also, amoung all of the initial hype (what a dumb-a_s I am!). Although I never had a single issue with it, I was thankfully NOT ever to use it in anything I valued. I have only flown it in foamies (where it belongs). Far too many issues with the initial release.
To XPS' credit, it sounds as if the current frequency hopping version is far better than the original (but still without antenna diversity). The only problem that I have is that Jim Drew (the maker of all things XPS) long ago proved himself a liar. I would no longer trust a valued airframe to ANY technology that he promotes. He is generally full of feces. |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
i wouldn't use the XPS system if you GAVE it to me.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Stay away from it. Period.
|
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
I don't know anyone that owned one, that didn't lose a plane.
Needless to say, I don't know anyone that flies XPS today. |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Well I have had one for test and didn't loose a plane. I put it in a Phoenix, did a range test. The system locked after about 30 paces. tried a lot of things to fix it. No way.
This test system never saw the air and went straight back to the seller. I did not bother loosing my time anymore with this system... |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
lost a flash with it..

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
NOOOOOOOOOOO not again.........[:@] I will wake up in the morning and not remember a thing....

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Thanks for the responses. Not one jet pilot has stated they trust and/or use the XPS radio system. One guy even called Jim Drew out as a liar. I find it strange that Jim Drew did not post in this thread but after seeing this thread posted in the "Turbine or EDF" thread that there are many jet pilots using his radio system. I guess with his "used car salesman" sense of honesty that statement can't be believed. In fact, I wonder if any of the statements he has made in other forums about other products he sells has any truth to them.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
I got chased by a 40 something percent Bipe with a DA 150 running wide open because of a XPS lock out. The guy took off, went to a knife edge and said "I don't have it!" The plane did a knife edge loop and came down wide open towards the pits. We all R.L.H'd to the shelter and it hit wide open at the edge of the pit's. Needless to say we had to get a shovel to dig the DA150 out of the ground.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
If he says it, believe the opposite (in general)! [X(]
And watch out for the magic spherical antenna pattern!!! |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
I purchased the XPS with the expectation of a usable telemetry option which hasn't materialized since I bought mine 1 1/2 yrs ago. I never flew it with the original hopping mode. When V3 came out I sent it in for update and have since flown it in a 40 powered sport plane for 28 flights without any problems.
I won't fly it in anything more exotic (my jets) untill I purchase the satelite receiver. This is just a personal decision. I should state that I fly it with a separate battery for the receiver and a second pack for the servos. I feel this is the best solution for any brand of 2.4GIG receiver. |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Hey Kirk,
Did you ever figure out the cause of the crash of your EDF Starfire at Whidbey? PaulD |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
I had one and was trouble free for about 50 flights, then it lost signal for no reason. I almost crashed but got it back about a foot from the ground. Took it out and tossed it in the trash where it belongs.

RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Hey Paul,
Yes, I dd find out what caused the loss of the Starfire. It seems using a LiPo battery in the 10X transmitter causes a diode or a board or something like that to burn out, in turn causing intermitten signal loss. There is supposed to be a bulletin on the Horizon site about this but to this day I have not been able to find it. After doing a lot of research and talking to several guys, I recently purchased a Futaba 12FG FASST system to replace the 10X. |
RE: XPS 2.4 Module ??
Kirk,
The 12Fg and 6014 receivers is exactly what I am running. Not a single issue so far. I just ordered one of these from SinCityJets: http://s42221013.einsundeinsshop.de/...%3D282214%3D29 Looks like a nice simple power solution for the 6014 receiver. PaulD |
