F-86 Crash and rebuild
1 Attachment(s)
Here are pics of my HP Jets F-86 before and after a midair. The tail area was damaged from the inpact wich also split the fuse in half right behind the wing. The left wing panel folded in the air as the plane was kicked side ways. I started to mess around one night and before I knew it the fuse was glued back together along with the Tail.
After careful consideration I decided Not to rebuild the old wing. I just don't think it would be have been air worthy. With the help of Dave Rigotti, we sent the info on the wings to FlyingFoam.com and A new set of cores where cut. They did a great job on these cores. With the plans I cut new wng tube mounts and landing gea r plates and assembled the new wings. I stripped the fuse with Citra Strip from Home Depot and managed to get the fuse in primer and spot putty. She should be ready by next summer to fly again. Here are the pics |

RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
Wow... That mid-air photo sure does not look like anything would be worth rebuilding. Great job.

It sure does look that way but if you look at the photo again to the right side straight up from the #6 sign, That blob is the F-86 going down. Then look at the photo of it on the cart. We picked up the F-86 on the runway about 10 feet in from the grass. The pieces you see falling from the air are the other plane.

Hey Joe, I'm bringing my umbrella and a trash bag to the next meet:D:D:D
Who's on the back of the cart with the BVM shirt? Is that RCPETE? |
RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
Why You planning on a mid air yourself LOL:D
I believe that is RCPete I know he was pitted next to us but I don't remember who came out to pick up the pieces. |
RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
Looks like Jorge Ragde to me.
|
RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
That's RC Pete. For sure. Even standing on the back of the cart, he's no taller than the cart's roof. :-)
Interesting place to hang a camera though. ...jim |
RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
Man that happend right in front of me. Its nice to see it going back together. My kids thought it was cool I wanted to spank them for it lol. It sounded like the plane hit a brick wall when they hit. Is florida jets always that busy? Thier was 4 to 5 planes flying the whole time it seemed like.

Rich
Most of the time you need to know what is going on in front of you. I never thought I would get hit in the tailpipe flying the same direction. OH I forgot its Florida Jets, when you get there to fly you take the throttle off of the left stick and change to an on/off switch. Idel or full thats it. I guess I missed that in the pilot briefing. YOU MUST FLY FULL THROTTLE:DLOL Joe |

You just helped me decide on the paint job. It will be the same color scheme. I originally did this jet after Steve Snyders F-86. At first iwas going to Repaint in as the Boeing chase Sabre in the red and white. http://www.sabre-design.com/profile_jet.htm Your pics have swayed me the other way |
RE: F-86 Crash and rebuild
Looks good, Joe. Funny though, I have pictures of the same jet in the exact same prime and putty (just many years earlier)......

Thanks Nick
I just love that jet too much to not rebuild it. I looks too good in the air. It flies so good I just hope the rebuild flies as good as the original. |
