Multiplex for jets
 

Hi JetFans

I have a Futaba 8 ch Pcm radio for some time now.
But with all jets eventually one will never have enough channels.

I am looking at the Futaba 9cap which I like because of compatibility with existing futaba receivers and price.
I also liked at the JR 10x ( extra channel compare with 9cap)

Now I did a bit reading on the multiplex royal evo 12fm
12 channels !!!! price looks good but not sure about easy , comfortable finger access to all the switches and buttons.

Has anyone use this radio on jets and how they feel??

You will quite likely get a lot of answers that say "feels great" and another lot that say "Doesn't feel very good". "Feel" is such an individual thing that you would be better off trying to find one that you can try out, than relying on subjective info from someone else. It's kinda like asking of something tastes good - what tastes good to me may taste foul to someone else ;)

The Evo does seem to be more "ergonomically" designed than some of the other Multiplex radios, but I think you still need to hold it in your hands and see how easy it is to reach the various switches etc, which controls you need to take your hands off the sticks to reach, and which can be reached while the joysticks are under full control, how easy it is to find each individual switch without looking at the bank of switches to see which one you picked, etc. Then hold other radios you are interested in, and compare from there.

It's highly subjective. (Otherwise it wouldn't always be such a hot topic when it comes up here ;))

I held it, but have not flown with the newest EVO-

It has a great feel, easy access to switches and you can even adjust the angle that the actual gimbals travel- :eek:

I have the 9C, but I only fly paint mixers and a couple D/F's ;)

An alternative is the MX22 from JR:


The 12 channels from MPX are PPM. It ist possible to have trouble with some ECUs and PPM.

Recently the same accusation was made elsewhere by someone else, and the points raised by that person (so the correspondent referred to is not you!) were put to the Jet Modellers Association safety officer, who had this to say:

"I am sure that the manufacturers of PPM receivers would like the right to reply to your correspondents views. Properly designed and installed gas turbine fuel control systems should not interfere with PPM receivers.
The problem is no worse than that experienced by the electric flight proponents. I find your correspondents statements somewhat alarmist and suggest that he does make it worth his while to contact the JMA and GTBA and the engine manufacturers. I have not seen any statements from Simjet and Behotec in the instructions accompanying the engines which I have recently reviewed which warn against PPM receivers.
I always use PPM receivers on bench tests, even single conversion, and have not had any problems."

Well it looks like tower-hobbies will sell these radio soon.
I live on a small tiny island so it is difficult to get a hands on feel of this radio. I'll wait a while until there are more Multiplex in circulation. It does look like a very sophisticated machine.
