Hi

Just a question as I am new to RCUniverse, a lot of purchases take place between yourselves and you all seem to live in the United States mostly. Any idea of how someone like myself living in the United Kingdom would go about purchasing jets or parts given the distance prob.


Any suggestions appreciatted ;)

I just purchased a 160 twin engine froma guy in the US. No problem. Have a look at the feedback for the seller and make up your mind. I have got a lot of stuff from here and also Ebay without being cheated YET.!!.
I get a lot of stuff from Tower Hobbies and also BVM.
Australian customs don't charge any duty (tax) on articles with a A$ value of less tahn $500. So I try to keep the parcels less than 500.

Don't be tempted to use surface mail, it takes forever. USPS has a really good airmail service.

I used paypal. The seller must have a "premium" (i think) acct. and Paypal charges a small amount for the transaction.
I transferred the money and Bill sent the engine. I suppose you have to trust the seller. As I said before I have not been dudded yet.
I purchased a Bobcat kit fro a fellow in florida and he had it shipped to another address in florida where my son was on holidays. He carried the kit home for me. (My son said "Never Again". )
You can also use Western Union,though I have never tried it.

I also have a friend in the US who can pay for things for me.
Sometimes the seller will not send out of the USA. I don't know why, It seems to be too much trouble.

Yes it does seem that people in the US do not like shipping guess it costs a bomb, this western you spoke about what is it, I suppose I could get in touch with a model store in the states and get the part sent to them and pay them they can then pay the seller??

I would try to negotiate with the seller to see if they can ship direct to you.
Shipping does cost, but you will be paying for it anyway.

I doubt if a hobby shop will be a middle man. You can try.
Try to negotiate and use paypal.
Paypal will only be a problem if you paypal acct is funded by a credit card as mine is. If you have money in your acct then you can send it to anyone for free.

I have never tried to have shipped, a large kit or complete model. That would be expensive.!!

What sort of stuff are you looking for?.
Western Union is a company that you can transfer money like paypal but you can go to your local newsagent and do it there.

Hey,

Just a note: Paypal isn't flawless. They've hosed me twice now. If they get any glitches or security alerts, they don't call you. They assume the worst (sometimes, that's good, I know) and shut everything down. You then have the burden of proof of all sorts of things until they're satisfied, and in the meantime, your money is locked up. In one case, it took 3 weeks. In the other, they actually reached into the bank account that I transferred the money to, and took it back out! All sorts of problems arose out of that.

Anyway, my advice is to just check the references of a potential buyer/seller. If they're well-known, and have lots of references, you'll be fine.
