JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Well, I think probably by the end of this weekend my Firebird will be ready for paint prep if not paint itself. However, I am really torn on which way to go with the paint scheme on this jet.
1. It is such a big canvas, a big airbrush mural idea would be really nice to do, but it's kind of what I do all the time, airbrush themes. That Viperjet I did with the dragon skeleton is a good example, looks great, but is that idea right? 2. Simple fast looking scheme, something like what Billy did on his, or Erik R's Firebird. Simple, 2 or 3 colors, fast and clean.... 3. Fast looking graphix scheme, like you see on dragsters or the top fuel boats, not murals, but a busy kind of theme. I'm really at a loss on this one, I have tons of idea's in my head, but not sure where to focus, a couple days ago I received the nickname "Copper Top"...... there is quite a story behind that one LOL, anyway, Since then I've had this Tangerineish Coppery and Black scheme kind of rolling around in my head that would look very classy, but to simple? I don't know, grrrrr, help me out!!!! I guess I should elaborate a little on the "Copper Top" theme haha.... In the last month or so, my friend Andy has been sending text message asking jet related questions (he's new to jets) in the evening. Problem is, my wife and I are usually involved in "activities" when he texts LOL. Not that it's a big deal, but you hear that stupid "beep beep" haha. Anyway, the last time, my wife jumps up and grabs the phone and texts back "Andy, this is Buffy, stop texting while I'm getting nailed!!!" Andy texts back and says "Sorry, I didn't picture Jeremy to be such a rabbit!!!" and my wife responds, "I'm the rabbit, he's the energizer battery". So Andy's last response was "Ok, have fun, I'll talk to Copper Top in the morning!!" haha, so there's the copper top story!!! |

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Don't like the theme on the funny car, but I'd love to see more pictures of that lambo in behind it!!!
Gary, It's not that I'm trying to please anyone else, but I'm so torn on what to do, my brain is working like a Jack Russel Terrier right now, I can't decide on anything but if something shiny flies by it distracts me for a minute LOL!!!! |
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
It's a little disturbing that 50% of the voters so far are not wearing any pants LOL

ORIGINAL: LGM Graphix It's a little disturbing that 50% of the voters so far are not wearing any pants LOL Seriously, I like the race boat idea, and like you, I'm not into the funny car flames (seen too many flames), but the scheme on the Lamborghini looks cool. Bob |
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
and maybe paint the legs and weels shiny silver if you can..would look nice!
i found the photo you asked here http://dragster.com.au/modules/newbb...=21425&forum=4 |
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Keep it high vis. I think with the speeds you're expecting with this bird you don't need another Super Bandit type of paint job where it dissapears in profile.
Jeremy, you're an incredibly creative kind of guy, I'm sure you'll find some inspiration. PaulD |

I like some of the race car color schemes out therelikethis gent put on his Viperjet. Doesn't necessarily have to be the same one butsomething along those lines.

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Try to keep some high vis color on the leading edge and the nose cone. It gets pretty small when its look'n right at you. I even thought about some high intensity lights in the leading edge.

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
A yellow-with-red-&-black-trim blur is easier to see than a too-dark blur.
Keep in mind, Jeremy, that that's about all you're gonna see when that thing is in the air. Even when a Firebird is parked it's doing over 50 knots. After seeing quite a few samples of your work in person, I know that no matter what road you take on this...it'll be spectacular. Enough pressure on you, yet? |
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
How about a combination of #1 and #2. Paint the entire airframe with two or three solid colors to make it more visable in the air and use that as a back ground for smaller details that will be it pop when it's sitting still, like ghosted flames or skulls etc.

Anything but Tai-Dye or Psychedelic ........both have gone to the other side with Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, and the Magic Bus....FURTHR.........not sure you are old enough to remember.....:)
Or, how about UltraBandit Air Show Scheme #1...........that way BV won't bust your balls for going 300+...........until he realizes, sheeeeitt!!! that can't be a UB......they flutter and explode at 275....:D I have always loved the Kramer's scheme for sport planes.....base white with constant curvy, superzinger greens, oranges, yellows, and hi-viz reds, saving your masterful airbrush talents for some kick-***** tail art on that huge fin...... |
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
LMX, do a simple scheme with dark metallic green mabey even gold metal flake in the green and peril white narrow sides. Black and white checkerboard pen striping.
|
RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
I think lthat you need fast and simple with high visibility. Take a look at some the two stripe schemes on the Cessna 750.
Also, unlike the majority of the voters, I do have my pants on! :D:D Cheers Rick |

I like flames on a Firbird, but it's been done how many times now? What about something like these two. On the boat with the puzzle pieces have the back of it look like bare flitemetal and have the pieces falling off it. Also maybe not so wild on the front.

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Jeremy,
You can copy my Super Bandit scheme - it's OK by me. Like Bob said you can see yellow with red and black trim better than most! Al Watson |

Actually Jeremy I would be very honered if you where inspired by these pics, same as my bike! I have the blue and white colors, but I wanted the yellow and black, sure you could dream up a fast scheme from this..

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
All those beautiful airbrushed schemes turn into a giant blob in the air.. Go with something visible that will ensure you never lose orientation on the beast!

RE: JMP Firebird paint scheme poll
Do something with Alsa Corp. products, I am sure you are familiar with their products.
