Engine for heavy FEJ Rafale..? Need help..

I sold my P-60 which was previously powering my Rafale.

Im looking for some possibilities now. A rabbit comes to mind first. Maybe a P-70 but Im open to ideas, What els would you guys recommend? I have to say Im really interested in KingTech, Would the K-80 be a good match?

The Rafale was about 21 LBS fueled with the 60.

I should also say, Ideally I would like to operate this jet off of a 300 ft grass runway.

Thanks! Pete

Pete,

I think that the K-80 is an inexpensive engine, but its performance is not at the top end. Its heavier and lower thrust than equivalent engines from other manufacturers.

The Rabbit is a better alternative, and personally, I'd look at the Merlin M-90. A friend has one and its really small and light, but has all of the 20 lbs of thrust that they claim. I think it would be great in the FEJ Rafale.

I'd also consider the Evojet 90 for sure. From what I've read recently, I'd look at upgrading the gear if you're going to fly off of grass too or they'll get real sloppy pretty quick. A bigger nose wheel would help too

I got my hands on an Evo for the first time yesterday and it's quite nice. The engine has internal kerostart and the valve for it is internal too. Only one fuel line going to the engine, one external soloid valve, the ECU (and GSU's) are smaller than a Jetcat. It looks really sweet. The Evo 90 is physically smaller than the P-70 but has more thrust. Check out the Evo 90.

Pete

My old FEJ Rafale is in new hands and now has a Kingtech K80 in place of the P60. It is a better match for the plane and it transforms the performance. The original tank was not changed and flight times are probably a little longer with the Kingtech than the P60. This combination has had plenty of flying both off grass and tarmac, all with the original retracts. The Kingtech really does seem a good engine at a good price.

I am flying the Flyeagle Rafale with a P-60SE. I would not say that this plane is overpowered with this kind of Turbine an i did a lot of modifications to be able to start her in less than 55meter runway.

What i did is following:

-Remove all Gear Doors due of the weight
-Remove the original main OLEO`s and replaced them with shorten ones. This allows a angle of attack approx.to 4.5 degrees with a full tank
-Remove Rudder Servo, it is not neccerecy in the air
-Remove the original thrust pipe and replace with a custom made from JETTECH Switzerland to a single pipe (Gain of approx. 1kg thrust and 150 gramm of weigt in the back)
-Replace the maingears  as much as possible torward to the COG. the nose is liftig now much better
-Replace the main gears with a bigger diameter and harder rubber
-Replace the original Tank as much as possible to the COG
-Set COG to 135mm from the leading edge
-Remove all unnecceary weight but beware the savety of the model
-No Hoppertank! use a bubblefree tanksystem like  Platypus...depending on your own prefer.
dont forget to modify the nose gear that you ensure the locating pin is alway finding the center otherwise you will have a big suprise when you first touch the ground !

It is a pity for the geardoors they are well made but to heavy and another big issue are thy valves...replace them with another brand. FEJ  valves are not reliable.
here a video of the landing:

Of course some modifications are not really  neccesery if you have a long runway...but here in Switzerland we are quite limited with space and long runways....this was the reason for all this mods because we want to FLY and not a expensive "RC Car" model to drive on the ground :-)

Cheers an good luck <br style="mso-special-character: line-break"/><br style="mso-special-character: line-break"/></span>
