Upsss ..... we do it again .....

after we designed the Liberty for FEJ and it doesn`t come out at the Quality we want it
now Wolfgang and me will do it again .....

For this new Plane we will also produce our own plugs and molds. When everything is
finished it will be produced by the same factory as the Skygate Hawk.
This means it will be produced to the highest standards !!!

Don`t ask him yet but i`m pretty sure SANDOR can produce a high Quality, non leaking gear for this bird

Scale 1:7 , what is it ??? :D

Hmm, first I have to finish another 'small' project ('bout twice the span  ) but who knows...

I'm definitely follow this one!

Awesome aircraft

Good Luck on the YF-23 Project; it is an Amazing aircraft! You will find it a bit challenging to get the CG right; about 60% of the structure will be aft of the CG which created problems the 65 inch Nitro/EDF and 100 inch Twin Turbine versions of the aircraft I have worked on. You will find that the design is bi-stable and will want to pitch up abruptly especially during landings.

I look forward to seeing a 1/7 version of this bird take to the sky's.:D

Take it easy.

David.

Mattresses though? They couldn't find anything better than some old dirty mattresses? My tax dollars at work I guess.

seeing what looks to be the "white-wash" covering on the canopy and the dusty/faded paint look, i would say that this picture was taken after the plane was out in "storage" for a a good bit of time and they are stripping it of its engines and cockpit... or possibly refurbishing it for a museum..

Were you and Wolfgang successful with prototype flights yet on smaller versions of the 23?

Here is couple bigger and clean 3-view schematics. I almost posted same files that SJN already found.

File that SJN posted, that has formers etc looks really good and plenty good info there

High Guys,
sorry for being late, I simply missed the email- notification from my ooooooollllld buddy Stefan!
It simply was in the junk e-mail folder :D

Well what to say, other than I put the whole thing on hold and throw away about 50 hours of work.
The drawing shown from SJN I downloaded as well and converted to a .dxf then imported it in Solidworks 2009. Then played around to get the outline dimensions right and loaded a top view picture in respect of the outline.
Furthermore I bought a little model about 1:90 wherby the brouchure said it is 1:72!!!
After an hour scratching my head I came up with whats wrong.

First, the "unclassified drawing" is a drawing which has nothing to do with the two existing prototypes, this was only a pre-pre- pre production drawing if the YF23 would have won the comptetion.
Second, the top view picture is distorted in x and y direction.
Third, the model is just anything to look at. If you are 10 meters (30 ft) away, one will still notice the difference to the original.

But I am not discouraged, I simply want to get as scale as possible:

New approach,

Bought a set 3view plans with formers from Scott lowther.-they are looking good to me.
Fished a 1:72 YF-23 from Revell out of the bay- shold be (hopefully) on the way to me.
Found a company which will do a three dee (sorry 3D) of said model. I think this will be neccessary as there are some very distinctive curves - ups and downs- especially fwd upper inner side of wing and air intake below.
I am still looking for an unbuilt one, where I can measure some parts more easily.

The story of the Liberty hopefully won´t happen to me anymore, nearly all the fine features were taken out for simplifying, the shell and design was used.

So Stefan and I agreed, that I am responsible fom the design including milling of the first prototype for the molds. Fortunately I have some 5 axis and three axis mills on hand.

From there on, Stefan will complete the YF-23.

Your help is very much appriciated and I promise, I will consider every input.
Ok guys,
stopped here: see pic

Far from ready but ready for refining.

b.r.
Wolfgang
