AMA safety code ????

"5. I will not fly my model aircraft in sanctioned events, air shows, or model demonstrations unless I have previously proven that my aircraft, control system, and piloting skills are adequate by successfully executing all maneuvers intended or anticipated in the specific event. If I am not a proficient pilot, I will not fly in these events unless assisted by an experienced pilot."

Given the newest rewrite of this saftey code, I know it was reasonable and customary to have new jets maiden and turbine waiver flights approved at jet events after so called "show hours". Now this was wise when it comes to complex jets and generally full size aitports and access to top noth help.

I am know understanding that some CD' of AMA sanction events see this ruling in full force 24 hours first day last day of the dates applied for within their sanction.

So does this put an end to an otherwise excellant resource for help of maiden aircraft????

Does this compromise a CD's license should someone report such goings on after hours?

If so wheres the wisdom in it?

RE: AMA safety code ????

I agree with what you are trying to say... Events with lot's of experienced guy's to help makes good sense !!! However I do see the point of the AMA on this seeing how they are the Governing body at these events. It all comes down to two words.... Public Safety. God forbid something go wrong and a person is injured or killed, and It was written that that situation should have never took place, Pandora's box gets busted wide open and the lawyers come out of the wood work !!!! It's sad that in this day and age it has come to this.

When test flying a new jet or teaching someone the skills, it is better to do this at a non event site. AMA thinking is pure saftey reasons. At any jet event, there can be anywhere from 50 people to thousands walking around behind the flightline and at a non event, there could be just the 2 of you.....

The crowds have all dispersed by time these maidens ever take place, late in evenings etc. So be it as it may, is it now to be understood that no longer can the waiver aprroval flight by a JET CD be accomplished at jet meets??? the way it reads to me how could you technicallly fly at a venue at anytime the sanction days are in effect with this kind of rule?

At the events. Once the event is over for the day its over. Thats how I read it.

Regarding AMA rules, I was looking at this old thread. Man how things have changed. I wonder what happened to most of the guys who were flying turbines back then and not now. Looks like DavidR and others were the first ones to implement the new AMA regs for turbines. A lot can be learned by looking at the past and comparing it to the future imo.
