CG Comp. ARF Lightning
Hey guys,
i have just finished my comp. arf lightning and adjusted cg as per manual (without wings). But i think the plane is a little heavy on nosewheel - normally cg will make the plane drop its nose when balancing on main wheels. I though find this tendency bigger than usually on the lightning. What are you lighning owners experience about this ? /Anders www.jetdanmark.dk |

No Lightning owners out there who have som details ??

If it is the original lightning go by the manual. That CG works great.
If it is an Ultra Lightning start balance it on the wing tube without the wings. This a great starting point, I am about 5mm behind the center of the wingtube now. |

We have the CG of our Ultra-lightning set at the front edge of the wing tube - measured with the nose gear down, wings off , and UAT full.

Weird this should come up because I'm literally adjusting my original style Lightning right now!
Started @ 45mm in front of the tube with the wings off and gear up. Flew the first 5 flights like that and was clearly nose heavy so have just moved 25mm back. Had a chat with Andy Kane about it (and he saw it fly on the original point) and seemed to think this was a good point to try out. |
RE: CG Comp. ARF Lightning
It is the classic Lightning i have.
I have done exactly as per manual, and with nosegear down. So that should be ok despite the huge pressure on nosewheel ? /Anders |

I had a Classic Lightning for years which is still flying with the new owner and I liked the C of G on the instruction point Elevator expo 40%. Yes it's heavy on the nose, especially with trailing link legs rather than straight as the wheel go back more! Loads of elevator power, just don't try and haul it off the ground, it's fat fully fuelled and needs 100m with a P160. Regards Dave |
