DV8R- kit version question

I just aquired a partially built DV8R. The bottom of the wing was sheeted, the aileron servo pockets were cut out but the flaps slipped by the builder. I need to know the location of the flap servo pocket. Just a close measurement should be enough to get me close. If any of you have one and could measure it for me, it would be appreciated. A measurement from the root to the center and from the hinge line to center should do it. Thanks

RE: DV8R- kit version question

I don't have a DV8R but I built a smaller model based on PCM's version.

According to their instruction book there are no flap servo pockets, the servos are:

The two Flap servos are located within the gear bays. The 4-40 pushrod runs underneath the gear leg (when retracted) and passes through the balsa sheeting and out to the horn located in the top of the flap. The Flap is Bottom hinged.

Also:

The servo is located between WR3 and WR2just in front of the retract air cylinder. The horn is oriented towards the top sheeting as shown in order that the pushrod has a straight shot to the control horn.

PM me if with your email you want a copy of the instructions, it's a PDF file. - John.

Well, go figure. I skipped through the manual to catch up to where he left off, I guess I "skipped" over that. I just went back and re-read that part. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Randy, I built the kit version PCM DV8R and I don't believe there were flap servo pockets. The servos in our Jet butted up to the aft wing spar inside of the gear area. I opped out of using the plastic gear cover and just used balsa to cover it all up. See picture to see location. It is not critical..

RE: DV8R- kit version question

Hi Randy,
Here is a link to a thread in 2004 with pictures of how I did the flaps on the first production kit from PCM. I am still flying it regularly.
There is no exposed linkage or control horn. I used a servo mount from Dreamworks called servo pro.

I have a mold available for a custom fuel tank that holds almost 1.5 gallons of fuel and uses up all the available space in the fuse.
The DV8R flys great with it full and I get 10 minutes with the hammer down the whole time on my p-120 with ample reserve.

I have pictures if interested..
