Field for large jets in Northern California
 

I usually fly at SCCMAS in Morgan Hill. This field is perfect for small jets like Bandit and Flash but the runway is quite short and challenging (trees on approach) for larger / heavier jets.

I'm aware of the Fresno and Tracy clubs. Is there any other option in Northern California? I'm in the SF bay area and willing to drive 2h30 to the field.

come over and check out Woodland. We have quite a few members that fly jets both local and that come out of the Bay Area. Nice big 600 x 50 paved runway that is clear and has big over runs on both ends. Plus a grass runway along side if you have a gear issue and need to belly in. Here are a couple of shots of the field. One from the perspective of final approach from the south. The other is an aerial view of the site. The site is just a couple miles off Hwy 113 so it is freeway almost all the way to the field for you. If you would like to pack up and come check it out and fly just let me know. If I can't make it I can have one of the other jet guys meet you at the field so you can fly as a guest for the day.

We are starting work this month on the new site Eric. But there is a good chance we will still be able to keep flying at the current site. They have discovered and endangered plant species that is growing on the site just because of the way we keep up the property and maintain it. The new site is just a precaution since we are on a year to year with the city on the current site. With some effort we will have 2 flying sites online by the end of the year and the membership will be able to fly at either.

Woodland is where I fly too. Beautiful field, extremely forgiving and Forest and his team do an AMAZING job maintaining it. If Forest can't go, I'll be glad to take you as a guest so you can check it out

I fly at Woodland too! Love it!!! very nice people and a few of us fly Jets there. I usually go on Saturday morning.

Hey Guys I am sorry about what is going on with you flying field. I have heard this is going on all over the country. They say when you open a new club you should start looking for a new one right then. three hours north is the Ash Creek club where I fly. plenty of room with 60x660 runway with nice clear area.

I fly in oakdale and it's just a dream site really... I also fly at two sites in livermore.
I'll be up at your sccmas tomorrow for your electric meet

But back to oakdale... it's got a 1000' x abot 100' perfect paved runway... nice lake behind you and you can camp any time out there.
I fly my electric jets out there all the time and it's unrestricted airspace...

one thing is once it gets dry jets don't fly... it's sort of an unwritten rule after a big fire out there.. but talk to the officals and see what they say
it's by far the best site I've everyflown at in california and I don't think I've missed many.. I'd take it over buttonwillow

Thanks Ron. I had no idea the Oakdale runway was that long. Sadly I can't make the SCCMAS e-jet meet tomorrow but I would love to give Oakdale a try some time soon.<div>

the club website is NCRCUF.com Northern California radio control unlimited flyers
it is a great place to fly and member owned so we are not going anywhere. same as Oakdale with the dry season though, end of May through usually September it is to dry to fly and 110 out so not much interest in being outside anyway.

There is an old abandoned 3000' strip approx. 15 SE of Salinas, CA. that I have looked at for years. I will ask a few of my farmer buddies if they know anything about it. All I know is that it was owed by a cattle company years ago called "Fat City", flown over it many times. Let me do some leg work.
