It looks as if the aircraft hit something...... Whats interesting was at that rate of speed, inertia should have propelled the exploded parts forward but it the video they seem to come straight down... odd?????

So, for those of us who don't visit other sites (I haven't seen this video anywhere until this thread) what happened? Didn't look like it hit anything to me, the way it stopped in mid air though, my guess would have been the fan came apart and cut the airplane apart? I'm not speculating, I just haven't seen the video or heard anything of it until now so I'm wanting to know what actually happened.

check the Joe nall thread. Fan did not blow up. I got greedy on the elevator for the given speed, it happens. Not the airframes fault, or bvm.

Ron, I believe he just told you. He over g'd the jet by pulling the elevator to hard for the speed he was going. What more can be said?

So just to be clear!!!! if I go buy a complete electra kit fans, batteries, and all! ( around $8K ) This could happen to any one of us if we pull the elevator to hard? WOW I am sure the electra owners will like to know this.

was this a "one" time occurance of pulling to many G's on the airframe, or was this something that had been done numerous times in the past, and this is just the time the airframe decided to give up? Even in the first pass or 2 in the video, it looks as if the wings have begun to flex and develop some dihedral.. And since i have been toying with the idea of getting an electra for the past few months, i'm intrigued to know if this is a "one time and done" or a "being greedy over time and done" type of occurence.

Anthony I have purchased one of these kits before. For far more than 8K and if I would have seen a video like this that would have never happened. Thank god I sold it. My beef is that this is a jet and no-one in the jet community has seen this. I think Dustin is a nice guy and is taking all the fire for his employer. If the kit can not handle the power plant sold for it, it should be disclosed to the buyers. Not covered up buy the CO. that built it.

Everything has limits. Stock electras are fine, everybody knows this. The only thing I am sorry about is that I broke it in front of everyone. I was having too much fun all week! Electrics were not my thing until I flew this package. For customers who are truly interested, I was flying for 5.5 min. Performance was just like a turbine bandit, only instant throttle! Would I do it all over again, yes.

Ron, are you saying that your jets can take being yanked that hard going 199.+? If you do that very often I'm sure you won't be enjoying those jets very long. I don't care who makes it. BVM doesn't represent his jets as being impurvious to any type of abuse. I don't think they ever have. Even the Bandits and Bobcats can be flown outside their envelopes.

Good questions!

Dihedrial- the Electra does have a buch of dihedrial. I don't remember exactly but it looks fine to me.

The fan- this fan is not for sale and won't be unless you can take some responsibility.
