Speed brake deployment
I'm close to completing a ct114 tutor that I install air operated speed brakes. Any suggestions on how best to activate? Is it better to tie into another function or have them on their own switch? When are they most frequently used, on approach, after landing?

RE: Speed brake deployment
I have mine on a separate switch. I used it on final when aligned with the runaway. I use a mix so that if raise the throttle to full power, it will retract automatically (no need to hit the switch back). This is to reduce drag if I have to abort the landing.

RE: Speed brake deployment
I am thinking of getting one also. Is yours the Carf kit?
If so what do you think of the build so far? Which engine will you be using? Thank you Stan |
RE: Speed brake deployment
I did the speed brakes myself. Used some ideas from pictures on the web and modified to my liking. I chose the Evojet 90. I wanted kero start and should have plenty of power to spare. I'll try to send pics later. I thought the build went pretty smooth. Changed out the fuel tank which I think is a must and am going to try to get another 16 onces on board.

RE: Speed brake deployment
The one that I have thinking of is from Comp-Arf. It is much bigger then yours. I believe it is 102 " wingspan and uses a 160 size turbine.
Sounds like you are well on your way. When are you planning your first flight? Stan |
RE: Speed brake deployment
Probably in a few weeks.
