need a good first jet

Alright guys, this is it!I decided to go with RT Hammer 130XL turbine and now I need apropriate first jet that is not heavy to fly.
It can be both trainer or scale model. These are specs that I would like to have in this jet:
1.Suitable for 145N turbine(although it can be less,up to 120N cuz I can detune the engine but not too much)
2.easy to land
3.doesn't fly too slow, but don't too fast what makes it a good first jet
4.I would like that the cost is lower than 800 $,but if it has to be more expensive then ok(hence the reason that it is first jet trainer,I'll buy the real one 8-12 months after this one)
BTW,I am in Europe.
So,post your opinions!

EDIT:Ok,the trainer can be for turbines up to 100N of thrust,I can dial it down that much.

Buy a Scorpion from AD, a little bit more than $800. It is mid way between ugly useless boomers and scale and is a perfect first jet, and if you are still in europe end of september, be sure to come to Jet Power Messe where you can witness all available models

That's just your opinion, I happen to think Boomers are not ugly and are first class trainers.

PST REACTION = ARF/easy to fly/not expensive

TBM DV8R. Nice looks, decent price and has the speed envelope you are looking for.

Boomerang Elan. great first jet. Fast and Slow.

Don't listen to Rider 60........
The boomerangs are the best way to get into jets. Just read the post on Boomerang jets. There is nothing better

My 2 cents

If you can fly there are plenty of better options... If you cant the Boomer is a safe bet ;)

At least thats the bottom line and my opinion- You cannot jump into turbine jets that have the added complexities of retract and gear doors and flaps without gaining quality stick time experience "ideally" on larger glow/gas type airframes i.e. 1.20 upward size warbirds for example. If you can confidently assemble/build and fly a reasonably complex P-51 for example no need to start with Boomers. Coming straight from park flyers and foamies for example as many seem to be doing nowadays yes go with the Boomers as they are "very" docile and forgiving, more so than is really required "IF" you have prior retract and flap skills on the heavier wing loaded larger prop jobs i.e. warbirds. If your comfortable, confident and consistent with the big warbirds you can transition quite easily in my opinion on to an F-15, F-86, Scorpion, HotSpot, Rookie, Bobcat, Velox and many more with very little concern..... Its a simple question of experience, with less consider the Boomer for its almost cub like ease of flying. The downside is the Boomers do not really prepare you very well for that F-4 or F-18 you may have had your eye on.

Tht's exactly th reason wh I would like to get decent trainer.I don't feel very confident when flying 3000$ jet.

RE: need a good first jet

Hello,

The 3000$ jet is wery low price for my opinion, that much cost fully equiped EF Yak or Extra 88inch and that is far away from jet. What kind of experience you have in modeling so far, building and flying? I see that you are from Croatia and I am from Slovenia so you can contact me on [email protected] and we can help you with your first JET.

Adrifllboy

Have to express my opinion here.

You are onlly 17 years old. From reading this thread and all the other threads you have posted in, it doesn't sound like you have much RC experience.

In another threads you posted that you saw a F15 powered be a KingTec 70X break the sound barrier. In other threads you were going to buy either a JetCat or Behotec, then you wanted a JetJoe, then a Kingtech then a Hammer. Also inquired aout pulse jet and homebuilts.

I'm beginning to think this whole idea of you buying a jet is a for lack of better word right now "a hoax".

AdriFlyBoy 07-15-2010 07:44 AM

RE: need a good first jet

I never said that K70X broke the sound barrier with F15.
Also,I was thinking abou jetcat and behotec but found them to expensive and then opted for hammer.jetJoe was before even I knew what turbines are.

RE: need a good first jet

I'll go back and look at that thread again. Hold on a couple of minutes.

bcovish 07-15-2010 07:53 AM

RE: need a good first jet

I will also add afterburner. Is that possible on K-80E?I saw one guy breaking the sound barrier with KingTech K-70X and F-15(afterburner on).

This was a statement made by you 4/23 in the "which engine thread" Post 16

I haven't seen that. One guy on Croatian forums told me that it is possible to break the sound barrier with turbine and afterburner(he stated kingtech). That was before few months when I was just about to enter turbines and I didn't knew anything about them.</p>

What do mean you haven't seen that..... YOU wrote it !!!! Something is missing here and I don't know what it is.... I'll figure it out eventually.. BTW, Any Turbine model with the engines availible to us will not break the sound barrier with or without afterburner !!!![sm=stupid.gif] Also here in the U.S. we cannort have functional afterburners, and it is illegal to break the sound barrier over the Contential United States with the exception of Space Shuttle reentry to land, or National Emergency or War. BTW #2 ... Why do you have a New York Address on you profile..???? Just wondering.

I was silly when I was entering turbines.lol.
New York adress-on some forums people said "he is from Croatia,he can't buy that.He has to travel 300 km to Schweighofer"and sort of.
That's why I have New York adress.

I'm awakening this thread.I think that either shockjet or jetmach super saport is good for 14-24lbs engine and will suit my needs. On TBM website it says that shockjet can do 150mpf high speed passes. Can I do that with jetmach super sport?

seflyer 09-06-2010 01:45 PM

RE: need a good first jet

shockjet will do 150  or so, what turbine are you looking at putting in it? that 130xl Hammer turbine won't fit, my shockjet has unlimited vertical with a P-70, nothing more is needed.

I am looking to pu K80E,Wren SS or P80SE.
Didn't decided yet.
Take a look at this:
http://store.laser-design-services.c...products_id=15
How can scale jet with retracts be so cheap?
Also, there are ton of cheap turbine trainers and scale trainers like this A3J on that site.

obviously with that question, your knowledge of RC model "terminology" is the same as your knowledge of RC in general... IE non-existant.. Especially considering in the link you posted it tells you what is included for $249..
