First turbine : Which one ? Why ?

Just a thought but if you want a way to cool down a internal turbine why not just make a tube with a small EDF in it to stick in the tailpipe after a flight to suck cool air through?
For about $20 or less you can get a GWS EDF-75 ducted fan. Just hook it to a 6 cell R/C car pack, stick it in the tail, and let it go. The turbine will be cool way before the pack gets drawn down. Just wire it straight to the motor with an on/off switch.

Don't think this is a good alternative... Indeed, propably your DF wont be strong enough to suck air from within the hot turbine.

Just use your starter engine to do so ;)

Not so

The best method for starting is actually with a converted hairdryer.

You throw out the motor from a cheap hairdryer and put in a 05 can type motor. You make a tube that can direct the air from the dryer (starter now) to the turbine.

It's much easier and safer to start a turbine with this method because you have more air going through the motor. Any wet starts are blown further back.

This is also the best method for cooling the engine.

Note, the starter is always placed before the engine. Putting a DF on the tailpipe wil simply cause it to melt.

Erazz,
having both run my engine (wren 54) as an airstart/cool and electric start/cool I have to say the starts are faster withj the electric motor but more importantly the cool down is also faster than blowing air through it. Thats just my experience...

Hi guys

I just wanted to chime in

I have notice EGV distortion when a turbine is not cooled correctly.

Has any one seen this?

Thanks
Johnny

I totaly agree about the speed of the starts. I just said that I feel it's safer starting with a blower.

My experience shows that cooldowns are faster with the blower... I guess that means I can blow more hot air than you :D :D :D

BTW, kudos on the SPADjet. Makes me want to go out and buy some plastic.
