Wren 100

So how come there is not much on here about the new Wren 100. 22 lbs of thrust out of the same size and weight of turbine as the Wren 54 (14.5 lbs of thrust). I saw one at the UK nats and was very impressed. Well done wren I say. I am told it should be on sale soon

Not much on here cause there's no info, only a one liner on the Wren site saying it will be on show at the open day in October.

Maybe waiting until Jet Power to showcase the engine?????

I know Ron Ballard seems to have taken over from Sara to support Wren on the forums. Thoroughly nice guy!!

I wonder if this a new version of the Super Sport? I thought Wren had already squeezed all possible thrust out of the MW54...

WOW 22lbs out of the 54 size. I will have to have one. That means that anything that you would put a P80 in will be 1 lb lighter.

Hi All surprised you did not buy one dennis, what you did not say is that it comes with the new Fadec ecu,new soft ware and new long life plug which is similar to what is used on kero start, takes 6volts from the ecu,and lights the gas first time every time,we tryed the new plug in a super sport at the weekend, has fast spool up as well, got to be a top seller and i must have one regards Keith

I've used the power plug in my 120 for some time now...works great. Wren has been working on the new website for some time now. I would assume the revised website will also feature the 100.

RE: Wren 100

So the new plug is just a long life plug as advertised but you see it being a better performer and it's a bolt on retrofit? What's the price, anything posted or inside info yet? I really have not had any problems with my plug on my SS but it's always nice to know what the new stuff is...

Sounds like some good stuff from Wren again with this -100.

RE: Wren 100

Sorry, if OT, but yes, it is a 6V ceramic heating element-like a kero burner minus the kero line. In the UK website the price was 40 pounds. The glow power in the ECU is set on either 6V on Projet and to the maximum with a Gaspar ECU, I believe. Simply replace the glow plug with it. The startup slows down with 2-3 seconds, but it starts very well...and should last for ages.

RE: Wren 100

It's not quite as straightforward as that. Not all the Gaspar ECUs can deal with the long life plug. My 3 year old SuperSport has just been back at Wren for a routine service and I asked about the long life plug but was told the ECU can't operate it, only the more recent ones.

RE: Wren 100

We now have 18 of these motors operating with excellent results. 22 pounds of thrust @ 160,000rpm, in a lightweight package squeezed into a SuperSport envelope!!

The next run of this new motor will be available late October, early November, at the same price as the SS with a MiniPlug as standard on the propane motors. Kero-start will be added as an option in the near future. Pre-orders are being taken for the 100!

I plan on performing fuel consumption testing on the 100 during our next Open Day here in Indiana in November. We will also be demonstrating the new Wren 75...Dates to be determined by weeks end.

Will the new 100 and the new ECU's run on A123 batteries yet?

RE: Wren 100

Great news Ron, thanks for the feedback. I'm sure the fuel burn will reflect the increased thrust but I also hope it reflects the Supersport burn in general. The Supersport I have made it possible to get what I needed in thrust at the fuel I was able to carry (not a lot) for run times that I like (enough to make spotters nervous that I'll flame out, until they see the 12 ounces remaining in the tank, not including UAT of course).

the same price as the SS
Does that mean that the SS is going to be withdrawn (or reduced in price)? I am a great fan of Wren, love their engines and their development rate, but what happens to those with older engines? If the SS is withdrawn how long will I be able to get spares for my SS? My experience has shown that the older engines aren't necessarily as well supported as they should be.

I used to be a big fan of Wren, but recent events involving repair charges, have made me stop all dealings with them. I am sure the 100 will sell well.

RE: Wren 100

I'm a huge fan of Wren especially since Ron started the USA service center. There are enough Wren SS's out there that I'm certain they will be well supported for quite a long time. In fact there are enough independent turbine maintenance guys out there than even RAM and Sophia engines can still be supported. I'm not concerned about my SS, especially since it's been such a good engine to begin with. Of course that doesn't mean I still don't want a -100 ;)
