Acme Conquistador gearbox removal

Acme Conquistador gearbox removal
Hi all
After a decent break in and some serious thrashing about after Xmas we've stripped the spur gear after an extended flat out run through long grass!
Got a new spur gear, have removed the 4 gearbox mounting screws but can't see a way of getting the prop shafts out of the gearbox output UJ's without stripping loads more off the car. I've seen people say just remove the 4 screws and remove gearbox. I'm a fairly competent car mechanic so am I missing something daft and obvious here?
