Default 14 tooth clutch bell on .15 cv-rx?

I am currently running a 16 tooth clutch bell on my T-MAXX and unless I run 280 degrees the accelleration is not very good. Has anyone ever run the 14 tooth clutch bell on a racing t-maxx? Is it TOO low?

It's not your clutchbell ratio, you need a stronger torque motor in a truck that heavy. I own a OS 15 cvrx in a maxx, you might concider a tunable exhaust system also. Like the C-Vec pipe.

chris - the above comment is incorrect. i have seen several tmaxx's with CV-R's in them, and all performed flawlesly. Try running the smaller clutch bell, but keep a close eye on your temps when running WOT, since the lower bell will cause the RPM to max quicker on the top end. if you have a std temp gun, check it a few times, immediatly after a high speed pass. if u are using an onboard system, such as the venom - set it to record max temp.

What is the max temp that you would run a CV-RX? When it runs at 270degrees, the performance is great with the 16tooth bell. I like to run at 240 degrees and at the temp, the motor is sluggish, that is why I am going to try a 14tooth. I use a temp gun, so I have to check it after the run. I am also using a dynamite 1-piece pipe designed for the terra crusher, could that be a problem?

240 is a bit cold. most small blocks like 260-280. 270 is more than fine. as long as u are under 300 u are a-ok.

Wow, really? I am ok at 270? How about if I switched over to 30% nitro, are there any benefits there?

chris - unless u race, and have a very very good handle on nitro engines, i wouldnt recommend using 30%

it will cause the engine to run cooler and faster - but u must be able to answer yes to the following questions:

- i can tune an engine by sound alone
- i can tune an engine better than all my friends
- i know how to install additional head shims to prevent predetonation.

Nitro addict obviously knows his shtuff. I ran an OS .15 cvr in my maxx with a 16 th bell, a big tube header, and the AE pipe. I had wheelies. I loved the setup, and the truck. It was really fun on the track. With the stock cooling head, i had it tuned to run around 265. When i bought the HCR mutant head, i had to lean it a bit, and ran it around 220.

Well, I do consider myself pretty good at tuning motors, I never have problems with my engines stalling or hard starting. I guess I may try it. If I am running 30% nitro, what should my temps be at? How do I know if the engine is predetonating ( knocking) What will you hear? I used to run 30% in my EK-4, but that was cool power heli fuel. I don't race, but do run my truck exclusivly at a track, so low end punch and power makes my time there more fun. If there isn't a problem with running at 270 degrees, I am very happy with the current configuration.

for the OS .15CV-R u will need to shim the head .2mm to run 30% without predetonation. this is a very precise thing to do. u will also make the engine much more tempermental. tuning on a weekly basis is not uncommon for top power. if u are not racing, stay with the 20% - u wont really see a power difference anyway. u will usually only notice it in the slightly decrease lap times, due to the extra power on the straights. i have a 15CV-R in one of my NTC3's - and shimmed it to run 30% like my other cars - didnt really see a difference, and it became a bummer to tune right.

Does OS make premade shims for this engine or am I going to have to cut them myself. I actually tune constantly, closely monitoring temps when I refuel, so a little extra work does not scare me. The question is what is the best possible situation:

1. run the engine at 260-280 with 20% nitro and the 16 tooth clutch
2, run the engine at 240 with 20% nitro and a 14tooth clutch
3. run the engine at 210? with 30% nitro and 16 tooth clutch

what is going to give the best performance and what solution will give the best longevity? Thanks for your help.

u will not notice an improvement by usuing 30% - it is really reserved for racers only.

stick with the smaller clutchbel, it will give more accerleration, but a lil less top speed
