Why do you have to bash people like that - It is probably all he can aford. Or he might just like 11 or 12 years old or something.

But as for the question - most people here do not run the Radio Shack and Toy-R-Us brands of RC's. So likelyhood you may not get a good answer to your question.

Not to jump on you on your FIRST post...

...but dude, this is NOT the place to even MENTION Radio Shack or any other toy trucks!!!! http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDNE0&P=0

Hell, the T-Maxx gets called a toy, and it's a $400 nitro burning MONSTER!!

Bottom line, if it's not sold exclusively in hobby stores, this is not the place to ask about it. That's not snobbery, it's just the reality of the REAL world of radio control vehicles.

Now, if you want a RC Hummer that is up to snuff...

... http://www.kyosho.com/cars/kyoc0522.html

Now I'll sit back & watch as other, more mean-spirited fanatics tear you apart

While I'm slowly getting on the same page as Popa71, he lays on the Philly attitude way too much.

I'm not normally a stereotyper (stereotypist?), but there do seem to be an inordinate amount of loudmouth jerks coming from that city.

If you are new to the hobby, and that's all you can afford, then check out something like this. Stay away from the radio shack and toy store brand stuff. Nikko and Tyco are for little kiddies.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGA76&P=7

That's just over $100, and will be a much better value for your $$. If you have more $$ to play with, then you can jump to a higher class of vehicle.

Hey, the duratrax evader is pretty good.[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXJ49**&P=7]click here to see the evader[/link]
its $160 but thats only $50 over what you asked for. Its a nice truck to start with, all you need to drive is a battery pack, you dont need AA batteries, they come with it. You should really look into it.

If you want to get started in the RC thing. try to find a Blackfoot truck or something close to it.

Here is the King Blackfoot. It is a great little electric truck. I have had many, I kept buying the newest version till I went to Nitro.

King Blackfoot = $100
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGB14&P=7

Blackfoot Extreme = $140
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFSG8&P=7

Either truck will be much better than anything you will get at Radio Shack to Toys-r-us.

I dunno if that Tamiya Hummer is really any better than the Radio Shack one. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=60%2D4358

The RS one has a nice radio w/3 frequency selectibility. Spec-wise & look-wise, I'd say it's probably as good as Tamiya's, and maybe even MADE by them!! Just because it's Tamiya, it doesn't make it better, and indeed, Tamiya might farm out it's low end stuff to an OEM company, just like the Shack.

YES, the Shack stuff are toys, but they ARE definitley a notch or two above Tyco & Nikko.

BTW, here's ANOTHER electric Tamiya Hummer that looks identical to the one you link to, but it has full bearings & some other "hopups" that probably justify the extra $70:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBUB6&P=0

Bottom line, Sweetshoes, is do you want electric (slow, heavy) or nitro (fast, but can't run indoors)?? But you may think you want to run these big trucks indoors, but from my experience, you DON'T/can't do so!! They aren't nimble, they ruin your walls, and once you run 'em outside, you'll never want to run them on your carpet again. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go electric-they ARE fun & easy to use. But if indoor use is a prime consideration in your decision, you should know that it shouldn't be!!

Radio Shack does have a RC truck for around 50 - 60'ish at Christmas time each year that does like 15 - 18MPh - Forgot which one. But it is one of their fastest ones they have. Couple years ago my kids and I sat there in the store and played with all the trucks they had. Sales guy said it came out every year and it was the fastest they have.

Welcome to the board!

Sweetshoes

Just get something that you can use to get your feet wet in the r/c hobby. You probably won't find your ideal r/c in the price range you are looking in, but you will have tons of fun just the same!

Btw, I got started in this hobby the exact same way, with the radio shack type r/c's when I was a kid.

Allthough I'm known for being hard on Traxxas, that would be much better than what you will find at radio shack!

A good beginer choice if it's within your budget.

Rustler is a very good starter. Same chassis as the Bandit. I bought both of my kids the bandit as their 1st real RC. Now they have a 1/8 scale nitro buggy.

If you get an electric you also need batteries and a good charger.

As for speed look at these 2 links:
Traxxas Rustler
http://www.traxxas.com/products/elec...rx_rustler.htm
Traxxas bandit
http://www.traxxas.com/products/elec...trx_bandit.htm

I sent you a PM asking if you want to buy a Bandit with ESC for cheap.

For a budget car - both of these are good starters. My kids loved their Bandits.

SweetShoes asked what he thought was a legitimate question, and it was indeed legitimate. Some of the responses, and the flames that came along were not legitimate posts. I've killed the flames and removed some posts from the thread.

Now keep it nice, and let's see if Sweetshoes can get some more good advice. And no flaming, please.

Bill.
