RE: fantom .18?
tell me how everything goes. im 13 and on my 5th nitro truck and the trx 2.5 is really starting to piss me off. the engine power is good. enough to make u happy and good wheelies but i dont like the fact that i have to twist needles everytime the sun comes out of the clouds or goes behine them a 5 temp change makes my maxx run like crap. im curious though is the maxx built good enough strong enough axles and all that good stuff to handle the fantom or will they start to wear and twist. keep me posted on how its running

I probably won't do much with it this weekend. Maybe next. I spend a lot of time with my other RC's. This one is my wife's and she wants it finished but it is not most important thing to her at the moment.

I haven't had mine too long yet to tell you to much about how everything will hold up but, I'm sure that you will have to do some upgrading. The rear axles on mine are starting to twist and that was before I put in the Fantom. There is a noticeable difference in power and top speed. As far as tuning goes, night and day difference between the 2.5 and the Fantom, I had some good luck with my 2.5 but had the normal problems of over heating and stalling. The Fantom does run hot but that is the way they designed it. It also seems to hold a tune well, I think on day I ran 5 to 6 tanks through it and only tuned once. So far I the Fantom has been great, I only wish that I would have changed to is sooner!

RE: fantom .18?
First it is TRX 2.5 not .25 - The TRX 2.5 is a .15 size engine. The Fantom .18 has loads more power than both. The .18 physicly will fit fine, but all the steps in setting it up and getting it to work is up to you or getting help from someone who physically can see it.
I would go with the Fantom .18 myself. I bought one for my TMaxx but have not finish the run in proceedure yet.
Cheers, Keith H
PS - if you ask something in a post a post, please be patient and dont email everyone the same question.

I've got the Fantom FR18 and it is one sweet engine, as long as you break it in properly, you will be very satisfied.

Well the rest of the world rates it at 1.33, but I guess everyone else is wrong and you're right.
If you've ever ran one you'd know that it has at least over 1 HP.

RE: fantom .18?
I have hada 2.5. It pulled wheelies and gave the truck new life at one time. It broke so i got the o.s. cv-rx. The o.s. is rated at 1.3 hp and didn't have the power of the 2.5. The 2.5 has to be over 1.3 HP fellas.

Who's the rest of the world you asked? Everyone but you and Kerry.
No I'm not gonna ask Kerry at wild hobbies. One man's conspiracy theory of how this engine was dyno'd really means nothing to me. While I'm sure he has a compelling argument of how the TRX 2.5 is a big lie, and Cen is much better, you have to consider the source. Isn't he the lead guy of the Cen forum?
Although he may be an intelligent person, his involvment with Cen and your screen name (T-Maxx killer with my cen mt2) leads me to believe you are both biased in your opinions. It would be very hard for me to believe either one of you.
Horsepower ratings are overrated anyways. Different companies test their products differently, and until there is one universaly accepted method of dyno testing, the numbers don't mean much.
As far as your comparison of the mt2 and Tmaxx, you have to take the weight and size of the Tmaxx into consideration. For example, just because the Nitro 4-tec is much faster than a Tmaxx, doesn't mean the engine is more powerful (they have the same engines).
