I always get confused about this. To me it seems that the bigger the tires are you have on your car the faster it will go. BUT people say that the slower it will go and the worse handling. so, do smaller tires go faster? HELP!!

i'm just guessing on this so don' think that i am definatly correct. i think the bigger the tires the higher the top speed. but becuase there is more weight to get spinning it slows down the acceleration. so when people say it makes the car slower they may be talking about the acceleration.

when they say it makes the handling worse they are probably right. but that could most likely be fixed with a more pwerful steering servo.

once again i am not talking from experiance, just what i would expect to happen, so don't hold me up to what i say

i think the smaller the faster cuz smaller tires are lighter ..i am comparing my ufos and stock tires and my trucks are faster with stock tires ..

if you fit bigger tyres it will improve the gearing for higher but if u fit em to big it will over gear and drop speed smaller tyres will improve handling and acceleration but the same with these if u go to small then handling will worsen

In the real world of automotive the bigger the tires the more speed,because you get more travel out of one revolution of the axle.However it takes more torque to move a bigger tire which is why you see big tires manly on large trucks.In r/c though with the small motors or engines I would think to use bigger tires you would have to adjust the gear ratio or use a lower turn motor. It would probably be a trade off.

Ya, it takes a while for the truck tires to spin up to speed
so they need the torque

If it was true - then why with touring cars why do they shave down the foam tires to a smaller size so they can go faster....

small tires= less top speed more acceleration better cornering bigger tires =less acceleration more top end and more unstable.

In a perfect world where the engine can turn max rpms, then bigger tires give a higher top speed, but slower acceleration. Opposite, smaller tires give better acceleration and slower top speed. However, RC engines very rarely hit peak rpm under load (kinda like when you hit a jump and the engine revs up), so bigger tires might give you slower acceleration and slower top speed if your engine is not too powerful (it just doesn't have the torque to spin those big tires). Changing tire sizes is just like changing gear ratios. If you want bigger tires, drop a couple teeth on your clutch bell or add a few to your spur. Hope that helps.

yes also a lower center of gravity bigger tires will cause your truck to roll more often smaller tires will keep it on the ground better/ wider tires less rolling skinnier tires more rolling

bigger tires are more stable, but only if the ride height is adjusted back down.

it all depends on the size of the engine. for example, on my rc10gt, masher 2000s slow down my truck in both acceleration and top speed because i have a samll block .15 which does not have enough power to spin the extra weight of the tires. there is not a huge difference but it is def noticable.
