Default Getting back into things

It has been a while but I'm getting back into the hobby, however things have changed a bit.

First of all, what's with all the RTR kits? When I first got into this you usually had to build your car, it was probably the best part.

I'm looking for a monster truck, I don't really have intentions to race, just bash around, etc.... I really like the Pirate Monster Sport, except I don't like the fact that it is RTR. Are there any kit forms for a similar vehicle in the same price range? I'm looking to spend less than $500USD for everything (Inc radio, misc....)

Also, what are your experiences ordering RC cars online (Tower hobbies, etc...). The local hobby shop has Pirate Monsters on sale for $430 (you get a 10% discount on everything from there on in) but tower hobbies has it for sale almost $100 cheaper, plus shipping.

Any tips, advice would be great. Thanks, Mike

Look at the Savage SS for a kit. It is one of the toughest trucks out.

I don't think being lazy is totally the reason behind RTR rigs. IMO it's good marketing. It's easier to suck in MR. Money Bags that way.............

well if you really want a certain truck but it doesnt come in a kit form, then just give a screw driver to a little kid and tell him to take it apart. then you will have just about the same thing as a kit.

Cool, I saw this on a few sites, I'm going to look for some reviews.

Also, anyone advice against online ordering such as Tower hobbies?
