Steel and aluminum tranny gears
I'm installing "forward only" tranny gears into my tranny from Robinson Racing Parts. Is it better to have 2 steel gears meshing together, or would it be better to have 1 steel and 1 aluminum gear meshing? I was thinking I should keep them both steel for better wear, but the guys at my LHS said different. What do you guys think?

RE: Steel and aluminum tranny gears
Make one plastic, or something weaker than steal. that way if something is to break, it will be that part. A totally solid car/truck will end up with more damage after a crash than one with 'weak links' in the chassis. Hence the term "Crumple Zone"

RE: Steel and aluminum tranny gears
Ya, thats what I thought. When I went to my LHS to get them, the kid kept trying to sell me plastic gears, when I specifically wanted metal gears. I already have the steel primary, so I wanted the steel FOC, well the kid ordered aluminum, even after I told him I wanted steel. I saw the part # he wrote down and came home and double checked the # on the RRP site. It was the aluminum gear! So I called back to my LHS and told the owner's son (who works there) and he took care of it for me.
