Official Monster GT Thread
After some discussion about creating a Monster GT Forum here on RCU, it was suggested that we start a thread to gauge the demand.
So here it is - the official Monster GT Thread.
To start us off, what suspension setups are people using?
I am currently running the stock shocks and oil with red springs all around. I have found this to be a bit more responsive than the stock blue springs, but it still eats up bumps pretty well.

I just popped the Factory Team Steering kit in mine - very very nice.
The steering is now buttery smooth. Probably 2/3 less resistance than with the plastic bushings.
Definately worth the $$$$

Yup, i've done that mod. Really helps on the track. I've also got the FOC kit installed. Very nice too.

Don't have one yet, but it is in the running as well as the losi MT coming out. They both look like fine machines, though I am semi disappointed AE just rebadged a thunder tiger truck.
I just wanted to shout out my support for a MGT forum.

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
Apparently some early trucks had problems with transmission gears. These problems seem to be over, and associated took care of the folks who had problems.
I have never heard anyone complain about the diffs - they seem really robust to me.

i just got one it seems cool. im just a basher but i do put it to the test. i was wondering how strong is the trans on the later built ones where the problems are cleared up, when upgrading to a picco .26 or a sirio .27. that extra horse might stress it too much.....any comments?

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
my upgrades include: (mostly because i hit a kid on a bike at full bore)
aluminum body mounts
2100 mhz. recharge battery
jimmy usn cold air intake
k&n air filter
aluminum diff clamps
aluminum shock towers
golden horizons cool head
aluminum diff case shims
stainless steel screw set
venom fail safe
and hopefully soon an indestuctible truck!
i also cut the extra bend out of the exhaust and mounted it longways in the truck, it does help the truck run a couple degrees colder.

The Monster GT is a quality truck that I am proud to own along with my 2 savage trucks. I wouldn't trade any of them. But the new Losi is mighty interesting........

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
I have never once heard a complaint about the diffs being weak on this truck. If anything they are one of the strongest points on this truck. They dont leak like most diffs, they have a spiral cut on the main gear, and the diffs have 4 spiders already inside. The only complaints i've heard of yet are the tranny gear, and some issues with CVD pins coming out easily. Some people claim the bumpers break easy, and i just dont understand that. I havent broken any yet. Its a nice truck.

Mines a Thunder Tiger MTA-4, same truck though, fairly happy with it so far, engine is nice and easy to break in, was just starting to tune for power and i broke a knuckle, waiting for some alloy ones to come through the post along with a few other goodies, going to be running twin tanks and a tuned pipe soon hopefully, all packaged under a Landrover Defender body.

The Land Rover Defender body should be cool but If you want you can send me the TVR Tuscan body!!!! And Thermal, I broke the front bumper on mine, it just broke the hoop of "chrome" plastic on one side. I dremeled the other side and now it resembles a push bar. It appears to be very strong now and actually quite chic!!

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
1. I know that the GT has a slower top speed than most monsters but is that just because it's geared slower? Can it be as fast as a T-maxx if geared higher or is it because of its weight?
I'm not interested in the speed, just wondering.
2. I really like the sounds of the Thunder Tiger engine. Seems like a 21 would result in a longer life than a 15. Is that typically true?
3. Also, reading on here, it seems that everyone has had really good luck with it. Has anyone had any problems with the GT's 21? With all of the complaints of the 2.5 in the T-maxx, I've definitely leaned toward the Monster GT.
Thanks,
chris

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
Some earlier trucks had problems with transmission gears stripping, but that seems to have been fixed.
The other tranny problem is screws backing out of the reverse clutch assembly. I am having this problem right now, but Associated took care of me very well on the phone.

RE: Official Monster GT Thread
If I get a GT, I also want my 6-year old to be able to drive it also. Does adjusting the throttle ATV on the radio limit the throttle enough that it decreases the top end speed?
Thanks,
chris
