And while we're at it, how 'bout a clear-cut explanation of what exactly MAKES a truggy?

Is it the suspension layout, i.e., lower arms above/same level as chassis plate? Is it the tranny ('direct' drive and/or center diff)??

I hear this term get tossed around a lot, but I really don't know exactly what it means!!

A truggy utilizes an 1/8 scale buggy style layout. This means the front and rear differentials are mounted on the main chassis plate. The XTM Mammoth, GS Storm SUT, and Ofna Dominator are some examples.

The advantage of a truggy from a racing perspective is the lower center of gravity. The main disadvantage truggies have is lower ground clearance.

the advanteges:

the disadvanteges:

This is a great example of the ups n downs. You should really drive them to see where each is faster. I think on the right track, you would find that a savage, or MGT is faster. I was at my local track helping a guy setup his GS SUT. We swapped radios for a few laps. He ran my extremely dialed in HCR savage with dirt bones. Thru the corners, there was no doubt who was faster. I could literally drift thru the sweeper. In the jumps i feel the SUT was waay to responsive. Almost spaztic. Thru the rough sections, and rythym sections, i was definitely faster with my savage, and ALOT faster with my MGT. However, in the straights the SUT was sooo stable, and the turns were amazing. Just drive one sometime, they are a blast on a track.

ya the truggies will come out on top if its a smooth track.the mt's are better suited to rough tracks with some big air jumps.

pros
able to start on a bumpbox
wider engine selection
much more tunable suspension for racing
much faster on big tracks
will turn under most high cg trucks
much easier to clean than high cg trucks
cons
awful bashers
much more tunable suspension for racing
eats clutch shoes and clutch bearings
not as durable as most high cg trucks
gearing selection is very limited
a good t maxx will eat their lunch on small, tight tracks

Good one.. fhm101

But personally.. Ask yourself this.. WHAT DO YOU WANT??
Use that to decide what you buy.. not the other way around (You as in.. people.. not you!)

That seems to be the biggest mistake many people make.. They dont know what they want.

My buggy seems to be very bash friendly as well as race friendly.. why bother with the MT?

The first time you yank on a good buggy trigger you will forget all about mt's. Trust me on this one.

2 electric STs
1 nitro TC3
1 gas ST
1 1/8th scale
2 Dominator and
1 hyper7 truggy(still doing R&D)

Not a one way bearing on any of them
that's the #1 reason I like the truggy platform
I hated yankin the cord on my SuperMaxx

I feel you on that one. I would not own a MT until Pro Hobby came out with a bumpbox for the T Maxx. Since that time it has become my favorite racer.
