Default Question about MGT/MTA4 high speed needle

yo guys, just a quick question, what do you guys have your high speed needle set to on stock MTA4/MGT

i only ask cause i was properly running mine for the first time after break in today, after a couple of hours of tuning i got it running perfect, a bit on the rich side than what i prefer but as its still new i thought i better not push it, anyways i got back this afternoon and found that i had been running it 1.5 turns out give or take a little

Well as far as im aware 1.5 turns out is lean as HELL, but it wasnt lean, it was still runnin quite rich, and i could still grab hold of the cooling head without burnin myself after a good 1 hour of running on this setting meaning it was no where near running hot, i find it a bit odd, is this very unuseuall? should i be worried? do needle vaalve setting really vary this much from engine to engine?

thanks guys

What matters is the altitude, motors run a lot different at different altitudes

AHA, AHA, AHA!
i think iv found out why its doing this, lol
i just desided to take the whole high speed needle apart to check everything's ok,

to my amazement, look what i found..

ok, beleive it or not, that is the very little o-ring that sits inside the needle valve at the bottom, which controlls the flow of fuel a long with the actual "needle" bit, its actually split in half across ways, half of it had been shredded by the threads in the HSN and the other half was wedged in the hole the fuel goes down, NO WONDER i was having issues ffs, it must have been like this from the factory as i have hardly moved the HSN apart from continually leaning it to compensate.. must have been a mis moulded o-ring or sommet and got all jammed up when they put the HSn together LMAO

hope its a common size i gonna have to get a new one

anyone EVER seen this before? LMAO

hmm, wait just a second, on closer inspection that o-ring isnt actually in the needle valve it goes in before it of course, and as i think about it, serves absolutly no purpouse whatsoever, it doesnt seal anything cause the fact that the needle valve is skrewed into the hole in the carb seals it, why the hell do they need an o-ring there, iv just checked on my TS2n which has the thunder tiger .15 engine in it, the HSN assembly and carb are basically exactly the same design, and their aint no o-ring in that,

how odd, im gonna fit it back without it and see how it goes, very strange

How could a glowplug be a cause of this? MAybe the plug was so bad that you had to lean it way out so that the oil didnt wet the plug....thats the only thing I can think of now that you mentioned a glowplug. Afterall I still dont see why you have to run 1.5 turns out, thats weird man....running your truck on the oceanside, what could possibly be better!

i have no clue either man, although a hotter glow plug would be able to burn fuel better, neither of the plugs are bad though they are both fine, the one i was having the problem with is the brand new one, and the one i put in that helped was a couple of years old but still fine,
plus it hasnt totally sorted it but im now rinning about 2 to 2.5 turns out and its only a touch rich, so i dunno man im clueless,

only thing i can think as i said, is my old glo plug must be a hotter one, unfortunatly its number has worn off over time from the glow igniter so i cant tell what sorta plug it is,

but the truck definitly runs better with the old one in...

it doesnt help that this engine is much bigger than the one in my old car so it sounds a lot different, tuning an engine when im not used to what its supposed to sound like is a difficult taask as it is yet alone problems with a glow plug and a stupid o-ring disintegrating into the carb..lmao

ill get it in the end

yes with the old glow plug in last night night and just under 2 turns out it ran a full tank, did load up and die once when i accelerated, but i had been watching the idle so it prolly just cooled down too much,
However it was still a little on the choking side if i full throttled from a standstill but only actually died the once

with the glow plug that came with it, it will die at about half throttle almost every time unless i have the HSN set to about 1-1.5 turns out

Weird. If it bogs like that then you have to lean it out, thats hoe my MGT was at fist until I leaned it out so it wouldnt choke like that...

yeh i know i have to lean it out hehe, but to get it even remotely near normal running i need to be 1 turn out on the HSN which isnt right
