Default Saw a Buncha New Stuff at the SHOW

I don't have a lotta time, but I went the the Chicago Hobby Show Yesterday. Here are some quick impressions:

TRINITY. New .28 Revo Drop-In looked great. The shaft start back was even really impressive/all metal//well machined. They claimed it was "all theirs" but I'd think it has to be made by one of the big makers and/or share major design elements with someone.

The Spider & Mini Spider were nice, but I liked the Associated 1/18 scale truck better than Trinity's. The spider is reviewed in the new RCCA, but it's REALLY narrow, like 1.75" between the plates. They claim it's very modular & easy to work on, and with all that weight on the centerline, it shoul;d handle great.

KYOSHO: No mini 777 buggy on hand, the 777 was nice, but the Giga Crusher really looked cheap to me. EVERYTHING inside looked plastic, and the plastic seemed cheapie, like those tubular plastic coathangers. The bumpers were SUPER flimsy...why'd they even bother?

X-RAY: the buggy is as impressive as it looks in the magazines, and they continued the tease for the new mini-truck w/one in a clear box w/ a cloth draped over it [:@]. The guy said the details would be out in a few weeks, but that the basic car would sell for about the price of their 1/18 road car ($100), but he made it seem like it would be sold FIRST more as kind of an RTR KIT...electronics/motor et. al but YOU put it together, or maybe it was partially assembled...I didn't ask too many questions about that. It WILL be out in time for Xmas!!

AE: Their mini looked GREAT, probby the best option for someone who doesn't have a mini-T. Fast, handled great, looked solid, comes w/CVDs, NiMH batt/charger, full bearings & a good motor for about $180.

HORIZON/LOSI: Nothing new/great, but I met Pops Losi!!

DURATRAX: I saved the best for last....seriously The Mini-Quake was great, and the Warhead was what I feel was the best new truck there that nobody's really seen yet, i.e. the Power Racing Raptor (pretty cool) & the Spider. The design is very cool...TVPs that are CONTURED to be narrow up front, then wide, than narrow again ("My theory on the Brontosarous, a theory which is mine....") Everything was "right", losta metal std. parts, the plastic looked & felt high quality (almost machined-looking)... I really think this truck is GREAT.

The Mini Quakes were there in force, and the deails are nice up close...futaba radio, seperate ESC/Rx, nice oil shocks. It ran nicely, but I think a mod motor would be needed down the line . They had the new ICE charger, too...it'll street for about $125, does everything including Lithiums. I'm jealous...anyone wanna buy an Intellipulse Digital?

I'll chime in if I remember anything more, gotta go do yardwork [:'(]

Dean

PS I forgot PARMA, who were the nicest guys at the show. I asked them about new bodies for the Maxx & Mini-T, as my kid's nuts about the Monster Jam trucks now (most of theirs are now outta circulation). He gave me 2 sets of decals & one mask, just for being such a nice guy...thats worth a LOT of $$ They had some real artists doing bodies, too. GO, PARMA (well, after you go start using thicker Lexan, that is!!).

Larry's Performance RC's already has 2-3 of those DuraTrax Mini-Quakes in....looks like a mini-quake all right, ok but no where the quality of the AE truck will be.

A friend of mine went to the show and said it was awesome! There was a ton of new items and gave him the opportunity to talk to all the manufactures. He said that CEN Racing was the only company demoing a nitro powered truck on the on road/skate park type track. The track had a bunch of jumps and a two large half pipe 4-5 foot high ramps which they were jumping off and doing all kinds of crazy stuff. It was cool since my friend has never seen my truck run and now after that demo he's going to get one. Hopefully someone has some video of it from the show. I guess they were doing backwards transfers and stuff on the jumps.

After reading about the mini trucks I think I want one, or maybe the mini777 if it aint too much.

I've came to a decision: Mini-T, the rc18t(that it?) or the m18t. lol

It will prolly come down to who has the best radio, but i do like the buildable rtr idea.
