Default MGT gearing

For the mgt 4.60 SE, what is the best gearing for a faster top end speeds while losing as little bottom end as possible? How much MPH will this add?

I run 16/48 ... It's got great top and bottom, it's noticeably faster and still pulls wheelies on command - I did put the FOC in it though. I think it's close to 40 but don't quote me on that, I haven't actually clocked it. The motor is the stocker but ported & polished too

I run an 18 tooth clutch bell and 52 tooth spur most of the time with the stock 4.6. I don't run the stock tires much, usually savage tires or racing tires (bow-ties or crime fighters). It still has real good low end and the top speed is better than stock gearing. I've ran 18/46 before and it still had decent acceleration, but by no means was it doing wheelies with the stock engine. I also use the FOC.

Here is a little chart I put together based off a formula that was in one of last years RCCA magazines. I just picked 34,000 rpm as a base to go off, so the speed difference is the main thing to look at.

Rpm / final drive ratio X tire circumference / 1056 = mph

Tire diameter X 3.14 = tire circumference

Stock MGT tire is 6.75" diameter, so the circumference is 21.195" roughly

34000 rpm / 18.28 X 21.195 / 1056 = 37.33 mph
34000 rpm / 17.21 X 21.195 / 1056 = 39.65 mph
34000 rpm / 16.20 X 21.195 / 1056 = 42.12 mph
34000 rpm / 15.24 X 21.195 / 1056 = 44.78 mph
34000 rpm / 14.40 X 21.195 / 1056 = 47.29 mph

Gearing-----1st------2nd
16/52------26.43----18.28 - stock gearing
16/49------24.88----17.21
18/52------23.42----16.2
18/49------22.04----15.24
18/46------20.82----14.4

nice chart Bria1, I'll have to copy and paste that[sm=thumbup.gif] .... that will also work with the LST1, the stock tires are the same height (I have both sets)

I'm glad you like it. You could also play around with this gearing calculator from this MGT site
