Default savage newbie...

been running rc10gt since 1993, but haven't played for a few years now... moved up to savage 21 this weekend...have ran 2 tanks so far(raining right now). is a temp. guage a MUST, or can i just use my sense of touch to tell if my motor is getting too hot?also, what kinds of temp guages are there, and how much will I have to throw down?

i say it is necessary to have a "temp-measure" device.

Generally, 2 kinds of Temp Guages, one is on-board

another one is temperature gun

Default temp gauge

my opinion its not a must, however its definitely good to have if you have $50. you can use the touch test if you are experienced. or the spit test work really well too. I tested the spit test, its the best estimate, spit on the head and if it sizzles and the spit bouces around, you are way too hot. If it boils with bubbles slowly, you are okay. I tried it on a frying pan with a oven temp gauage, the spit will bubble at around 220 F, and 270 F, bubbles will form much quicker and evaporate off, thats your limit, over that, the spit will just fry like chicken...
one last thing, if you buy a cheap temp gauge, sensor area picks up the temp from a large area and will average, so if you try to aim for the plug, you will pick up the colder temp around that which are the fins.
